Thanks, Mark.

I have added a couple of Ryzen-based "mini-PC" units over the last 18 months and (in the absence of ARP1 and SCC1) they've been doing a mix of MCM1 and MilkyWay N-body -- mostly the former! That has effectively doubled the amount of MCM1 I have been returning a day [this year]...

Regarding "exciting times"...

I look forward to seeing how the newer mini-PC does on ARP1 -- it has plenty of RAM and even though I've throttled the CPU slightly (to stop it warming up the cables near the air outlet!) it's still running at over 4.3GHz per active thread [on MCM1]; it's now the fastest system I have on BOINC duty!...

I also look forward to the return of Mike's reports and the tracking of ARP1 failures and delays that the community has undertaken in the past :-) -- Here's hoping that WCG/Krembil have better luck dealing with issues now most of the data-handling is "in house"...

Cheers - Al.

P.S. I really ought to write something up about those mini-PCs in the Hardware Chat forum...

That would be very interesting. If you happen to have a Kill-a-watt style device, I'd love to hear what sort of performance per watt you are getting from them.

Cheers,
Mark

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Unfortunately, TigerLily's latest News post puts a bit of a damper on things, but at least it demonstrates that things are nearly ready (hoping the problems can be easily resolved...)

With the unit classification stuff and the attempts to ensure that non-"Normal" units get reasonable exposure, I suspect [re]launching ARP1 is a lot messier than firing up any of the other projects would be...

Ah, well -- hurry up and wait...

Cheers - Al.

[Edited to fix a typo belatedly spotted :-)]

I've been monitoring the three ARP1 "stats" files throughout the hiatus, and yesterday saw a change to state.txt -- signs that something is happening :-)
Thanks for the alert, Al! As I also started 'recording' the three statistical daily ARP1-files last year, I decided to stop downloading them when 'nothing' happened for a long time. (Nothing visible, of course.)

When did you start downloading them and how are your downloaded files stored? Are they in the originally downloaded format?

On 2024-07-15 the file was the same as it had been since the last pre-hiatus activity; on 2024-07-16 the values had changed, losing 441 units as a result.
Ouch, I was one day late and missed that one because I was travelling by train on that day, so do you still have those data?

Thanks,
Adri

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Adri - regarding ARP1 "stats" files...

I've been collecting the files [in downloaded format] since 2022-07-16, subject to some caveats about content during outages at either the WCG end or at my end. The result is a set of three files per day, every day (including outages), from then until now; one or two completed and generations files that should have been available but couldn't be collected were extrapolated from surrounding files, and I continued to collect the [unchanging] files during the [continuing] APR1 hiatus. This looks like OCD, doesn't it :-) but if I ever get round to doing a fuller analysis (rather than my notes on daily inspection), having data for all days will make a linear sweep a lot easier!

As for the data you missed - only the state.txt file has changed:

2024-07-15 (35607 units)
+--------------+----------------+-------------+
| number_units | max_generation | type |
+--------------+----------------+-------------+
| 83 | 135 | Accelerated |
| 403 | 130 | Extreme |
| 35121 | 145 | Normal |
+--------------+----------------+-------------+

2024-07-16 (35166 units)
+--------------+----------------+-------------+
| number_units | max_generation | type |
+--------------+----------------+-------------+
| 59 | 135 | Accelerated |
| 400 | 130 | Extreme |
| 34707 | 145 | Normal |
+--------------+----------------+-------------+

2024-07-17 (35165 units)
+--------------+----------------+-------------+
| number_units | max_generation | type |
+--------------+----------------+-------------+
| 59 | 135 | Accelerated |
| 399 | 130 | Extreme |
| 34707 | 145 | Normal |
+--------------+----------------+-------------+

2024-07-18 (35163 units)
+--------------+----------------+-------------+
| number_units | max_generation | type |
+--------------+----------------+-------------+
| 59 | 135 | Accelerated |
| 398 | 130 | Extreme |
| 34706 | 145 | Normal |
+--------------+----------------+-------------+

Since then, the state.txt file is unchanged.

Cheers - Al.

P.S. I'll edit this post this afternoon in the unlikely event that there's any change in Sunday's files :-)

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Great work! Thanks, Al!

I've been collecting the files [in downloaded format] since 2022-07-16
Say Aℓ, is there a possibility that you can send me all those "stats" files (preferably in the form of some UNIX archive format like 'tar'), e.g. by temporarily joining my team (top40.nl) and then sending mail to the team captain? (me)
Or we can exchange PMs over at Einstein.
Or do you need my e-mail address? I'd love to get these files more complete than what I have now, since I started collecting them on 2023-05-19 (three files daily).

Adri

Adri,

I've sent a test message to what I assume is your Einstein account :-) I'll wait to see what happens next...
