Hi seawizard,
I'll start by saying: I don't know. But it would be nice to get some more information. Does hovering the cursor over the grid icon show a percent completed? Does Task Manager show the grid application running? Are you running HPF or FAAH? mycrofth |

I 'spose I couldah started a new thread, but how about total graphics failure all together??? : From the OK dialog box: "Error switching to module graphics" "Error Number: 364" "MSG: Object was unloaded" Going from the Main Window to the Application Window has no visible results. Then clicking on the Preferences button and then to Application button gets that error... Me too - but only on the machines running Win2K - exactly the same error message and no graphics. The XP machines show the graphics fine. |

Yo! mycrofth: VIAO GRX616 added a touch there - mine is/are Windows 2000, but some Windows 2000 work OK...
Does hovering the cursor over the grid icon show a percent completed? Yes, all hover_overs work fine (URL links, etc) Does Task Manager show the grid application running? Yes, all three processes: UD.exe, ud_xxxxxx.exe, and WCGrid_autodock... Are you running HPF or FAAH? ? Can't say that I am... Just UD Hardware: Athlon 700, 512M RAM, Tyan K7 board Here's a little more: Once the error dialog is clicked (OK), and the interface minimize button is clicked (clear the screen), a "shadow" interface remains on the desktop - but can be minimized just fine... If you want a dump of some kind - I can send you one... Thanks, CSW |

Probably the most important - sorry I missed it before - YO! VAIO GRX616: you have ATI video HW? Those are the machines that are not acting right - I have a W2K machine with a Matrox card & it's a bit sluggish with the graphics - but they do show up after a few seconds...

Well - duh... Yes, this is FAAH, HPF works fine...
Once again: (I screwed up - NOT Matrox - NVIDIA) W2K MS ATI drivers - graphics crash W2K NVIDIA TNT2 drivers - sluggish, but work |

Thanks seawizard,
You are doing a great job of narrowing things down. But with Thanksgiving coming, I am just going to drop a note to the staff about this. I do not have any quick fix in mind. mycrofth |

Dear Seawizard:
Some questions: 1. Did you install the agent under an id having permissions to install progrms and are you running it under the same id? And, was it a standard install (no customizations) using the download from worldcommunitygrid.org? 2. When you bring up the agent window, what project does it say is running in the main window upper left (house icon)? 3. When you click on the application window (circle around i icon), the projects take some time to get the graphics going. Give it 5 to 10 minutes. 4. Try the Windows 3-D Text OpenGL screen saver and see if that works on your machine. 5. Try rebooting the machine. Is your machine low on disk space or does it have other applications consuming lots of memory? Thanks. |

The machines that run Win2K are all Compaq P3 SFF's with Intel integrated graphics - drivers from the Intel site.

The first unit I ran had complete graphics. The current one has no graphics at all at any point in the process, according to intermittent checks by me.

Hello Viktors,
1. Did you install the agent under an id having permissions to install progrms and are you running it under the same id? And, was it a standard install (no customizations) using the download from worldcommunitygrid.org? Yes to both. Same id: admin (no other user accounts on the machine(s). Standard install from back in June - machines have been running PROTEOME_FOLDING just fine (full functionality). No mods whatsoever - I just pulled the client down & let 'em rip. A couple machines were running UD (from the united devices site) but the WCG install had an 'uninstall' dialog run (no errors) for the UD app. 2. When you bring up the agent window, what project does it say is running in the main window upper left (house icon)? In this case it is FIGHTAIDS@HOME 3. When you click on the application window (circle around i icon), the projects take some time to get the graphics going. Give it 5 to 10 minutes. Yes, some work units were well into the run - some over 90% 4. Try the Windows 3-D Text OpenGL screen saver and see if that works on your machine. OpenGL Text SS runs fine, Directx7 (I should try DirectX 9, huh?!?) the WCG screensaver shows the banner - no graphics... 5. Try rebooting the machine. Is your machine low on disk space or does it have other applications consuming lots of memory? No other extranious apps running, 512Mb RAM, 2 HDs, WCG agent & page (swap) file on same drive with >1 Gb free - I can try switching the page file to another dirve - I'll reboot CSW |
