No my 5950x is not dual boot. I rebuilt the PC with a new motherboard, CPU, memory, and fan. I just used the old HD and Ubuntu which was on it. It's 24/7 running 32 threads. I am now running some rb units and "top" shows nothing out of the ordinary. You seem to know the stats for my units. Are you telling me anyone can see other people's stats on Rosetta? Here are a few spare question marks you can use for that laptop: ???????????? ![]() Thank you for the ?s. Yes people can see your stats in detail but you can hide your hosts and lose the change that people like me can help...... if you list the top hosts you will notice that people have their host on display and all results are visiable, some without the cruncher name. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by MStenholm at Mar 31, 2024 3:53:29 PM] |

Which Ubuntu version?Which Linux kernel version? You may need to upgrade to get better support for 5950x CPUs. [Edit 2 times, last edit by AgrFan at Mar 31, 2024 5:19:17 PM] |

As you said, how could I have gotten this help by hiding everything. |

NH-U12S, one fan. HD? I'm using an SSD. . ![]() |

There must be a configuration problem somewhere. When I run a benchmark I'm back to: (run now)
5020 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU 84187 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU That not even as good as my 3900x |

I investigated this wIth WCG data from the 5950x and 3900x. The data shows that WCG is fairer with it's credits. A unit is given the same amount of credit regardless of the clock time it took to finish. The average granted credit and claimed credit are very close on both with the 5950x being a bit better. The 5950x granted credit is just a bit higher than the claimed credit. These were all MCM so I assumed each unit had about the same value. The 5950x does really take 3 hours to complete while the 3900x takes 1.5 hours.
----------------------------------------Using the command: cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep "MHz"I found that the 3900x never changed from 4000 MHz but the 5950x varied between 3462 MHz and 544 MHz at an interval I could not determine. So my speculation is that this is what keeps the temp down so low on the 5950x and thus it needs a BIOS tweak to keep it at ~3462 MHz or 4000. I could take the extra heat. Rosetta must be using the values it gets in client_state.xml from <p_fpops> and <p_iops> to figure out credits or points and you get less if the unit takes more clock time to complete. I prefer the WCG method. So no Rosetta on the 5950x until I can figure this out. [Edit 2 times, last edit by BobbyB at Apr 2, 2024 8:59:49 PM] |

After some research I looked at the BIOS. What is in the docs is not what I see on my machine. The CPU Clock Control and CPU Ratio Mode are missing in my BIOS which is similar to what I used for my 3900x.
----------------------------------------On the BIOS dated Feb 16, 2022 F15a I see: 3. Reappear the option of Max CPU Boost Clock Override for Vermeer. This must be it. I re-ran benchmarks after a boot and it clocked at 8000. I Updated Rosetta and checked their site and that machine is now registered at 8000 whereas before it was at that slower speed as I posted above. This value is also in client_state.xml <p_fpops> and <p_iops>. [Edit 3 times, last edit by BobbyB at Apr 5, 2024 4:47:31 PM] |

Excellent sleuthing! Ha! except I never noticed that I was looking at a different version of a Gigabyte B550M motherboard. Guess I saw only what I wanted to see. With the latest BIOS those settings I was looking for don't exist as they show in their documentation. There are plenty of settings which are not explained anywhere I can find. Seems I'm stuck with a motherboard/CPU combo which throttles itself when it reaches 46C. Pooh on Gigabyte and their crippled motherboard. |
