I have BOINC installed as a service.
----------------------------------------I am getting a Command prompt window that opens up and flashes the screen regularly. It happens fast of course and goes away, but I can see BOINC in the title of the window. Can anyone explain this activity, and more importantly, how to stop this from happening? Thanks for any info!  |

What operating system?
Are you running any other services? Are the any messages in the BOINC log file (may have to turn on more options to see them. Did you install BOINC initially AS a service or did you add it later in the startup folder? Except for the command prompt window, does the BOINC program run properly? Approximately how often does the command prompt window flash, is it reasonably regular or at random times and are you running any other programs? I added it after the install as I also wanted to run a screen saver., I'm sure others may have additional thoughts. Happy Crunching |

----------------------------------------Running Windows 11 In Services App, yes of course there are many services running. Not sure what you are looking for. Log file Shows about 15 aborted tasks. If I remember correctly that was reinstalled later to run as service. Many times I have looked for the icon in the system tray and find it is not there. I go to Start and run the BOINC app to get it going. I am not sure how often the command prompt appears, but it seems about every 5 to 10 minutes. Thanks for any advice! I have Boinc running on two to other machines currently, and have been running for many years. I'm just not sure what is going on and why. |

As you probably know, the aborted tasks are because either:
1) Queue too large 2) BOINC was suspended while working on other projects. 3) System was powered OFF for extended times. 4) BOINC software not running. Athough the following is available online, I have entered it below for your convenience. Add an app to run automatically at startup in Windows 10 1) select the START botton and scroll to find the app you wat to run at startup. 2) Right-click the app, select MORE, and then select OPEN FILE LOCATION. This opens the location where the shortcut to the app is saved. If there isn't an option for the OPEN FILE LOCATION, it means the app can't run at startup. 3) With the location open, press the WINDOWS LOGO KEY + R, type SHELL:STARTUP, then select ok. This opens the STARTUP folder. 4) copy and paste the shortcut to the app from the file location to the STARTUP folder. I copied this from a printout of a search of the Microsoft 365 website. I typically do a standard install then add the program shortcut to the startup. If you want to do that as well, I would suggest that you select NO NEW TASKS, wait until all the WU's have been processed and completely uploaded, then do a full uninstall. reboot the computer then install BOINC as normal (not a service). Once that done, then follow the procedure above. Good luck. |
