There have not been enough MCM WUs since 11/28/2023, probably even since around 11/18/2023, you can see that on the amount of returned results. If the servers can keep up with the demand, there are 1.3-1.4 millions MCM results returned to the project, if it's less, than they can't. I bookmarked that page, it's as close as we can get to a server status page here, does not show the current state, only the past, but better than nothing. Don' think that there has been a general WU shorting (MCM only at this time anyway) beside for maybe a few hours the web site was also down...I only notice that among my two dozen hosts, some of them, kind of randomly don't seem to get new WUs while at the same time (within a matter of a minute or two) are getting filled up to the brim. Others had reported before that their "high performance" host don't seem to get any new work, but for me, this was all across the board... Ralf |

If they cannot supply us with enough work at the moment then some of the big farms need to mothball a machine or 2 meanwhile. Or simply crunch something else, there are many BOINC projects doing real science and which need more computers. I don't have a farm, but moved my computer to Milkyway anyway, they have CPU-only work now. Yes, that's the beauty and purpose of the BOINC system. I strongly encourage people to explore adding a backup project to their favorite project. Distributed computing is also intended to utilize unused processing cycles on people's otherwise used machines. Not to build their own personal supercomputer cluster, driving up their personal expenses in the process. I think some people forget that, and therefore get upset when there's issues. At the moment, WCG would benefit more from funding than machines.

We are here to help them - not the other way round! If they cannot supply us with enough work at the moment then some of the big farms need to mothball a machine or 2 meanwhile. ARP is due back soon which should make up for the current shortfall. Mike Yikes!!!! Mike, we are stakeholders.... just like if you worked for WCG or they were a company you had invested money in, or a person that bought product from them. We have invested our computer time in WCG, and in some cases (like me) bought graphics cards specifically to run grid applications. When organizations forget who their stakeholders are, bad things happen. What is the WCG without people volunteering their computers? NixChix is not the only volunteer who has left (by far!!!) ![]() |

Pretty sure I don't want to disagree with either of you. I would only consider myself a stakeholder if they sold stock and I had a share. I do have time and money invested in hardware (not so much) and electricity (quite much). Sometimes I do not care too much for how Krembil might be running (or not running) the operation, but in the end I am a volunteer who believes this is important research which would otherwise not get done unless somebody volunteers to provide the computing part of this research. If, at some point in time some AI operation like Deep Think comes up with the answer(s) the researchers have been seeking, i will turn my volunteer efforts to "something else." That "something else" will be something I would consider to be beneficial in the big scheme of things. Cheers

Cheers In this case “stakeholder” is a technical term used in business analysis to denote any person, department or organisation who has input to, or who interfaces with, a system. Using that definition, we are stakeholders and should be considered in their business model. Having said that, I do think they have bigger problems to look after :-) |

Have you tried a restart or a cold start ? Thank you for the clarification. Cheers

Have you tried a restart or a cold start ? Sometimes I just feel like a moron! Thank you, I didn’t even have to ask, rebooted and there they were, running by the time I’d restarted the manager. |
