Thanks to the WCG Forum and data center people for letting us know about the outage.
----------------------------------------... But I'm curious about the "July" part. ... They didn't mean "June", but put "July" by mistake, did they?? ... We're not used to anywhere that length of notice before a shutdown.
That science of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth.

We're not used to anywhere that length of notice before a shutdown. June 25th is a Sunday, so that seems like an improbable time for maintenance. July is seeming like what they meant. Thanks to the WCG team for significant advance notice on this :) ![]() |

Thanks for the heads up about the system being scheduled offline during part of the last week of July.
Are you you allowed to share what the projects are in the data center during this planned outage? General PM on the systems? Electrical work? Installing additional, new hardware? Replacing/upgrading hardware? Software upgrades of some kind? Any planned changes to WCG's hardware or software? |

Thanks for the heads up about the system being scheduled offline during part of the last week of July. You are aware that this is not WCG that is having a maintenance outage but the WHOLE data center, of which WCG apparently is only one very small cog in the whole operation, aren't you?Are you you allowed to share what the projects are in the data center during this planned outage? General PM on the systems? Electrical work? Installing additional, new hardware? Replacing/upgrading hardware? Software upgrades of some kind? Any planned changes to WCG's hardware or software? Thanks to the WCG team for significant advance notice on this :) It wouldn't surprise me if it was, in fact, Sunday, June 25. At least in enterprise/corporate IT, Sunday planned outages (like once a month or so) are the least impactful or disruptive to most businesses. Academic IT might just be like YOLO cowboy action style and not care when maintenance windows are lol, but I'd like to think most follow the same model. I'm expecting it to be June (today), honestly. Edited to Add: So far we seem to be up and available, so maybe I need to lower my standards and expectations for academic IT. Maybe they really did mean Tuesday, July 25-Wednesday, July 26, even though that's a business day.
