Choosing the device profile option "If there is no work available for the project(s) I have selected above, please send me work from another project" does not appear to work, at least for MCM. I have left that option selected and get no work even when the only project with work is MCM. My computers ran dry with this setting. I had to specifically choose MCM to get work.

I am curious. What's wrong with MCM such that you do not select it.

I am curious. What's wrong with MCM such that you do not select it. I have run 25 years for MCM and am trying to give other projects (OPN, ARP, HSTB, SCC) a equally sizable contribution, especially SCC. The problem is the selection process doesn't work correctly. Cheers |

I've noticed it behaving the same here. I disable MCM for the same reasons, because it feels like MCM is just steamrolling over the other projects, hehe.

Is it possible that there are more MCMs than others like HSTB (of which there are none) and thus just the luck of the draw as to which WUs you get when your machine contacts WCG for work.
----------------------------------------I look at the queue of my Ryzen 9 3900X and see about 70 SCC1 and 20 MCM1 (~3 to 1). So maybe I have most of the SCC1 and you can't get them. The other slower machines have more MCM1 that SCC1. None have an ARP because there are none to be had I assume. That's about 3-4 hours work so I will look again at that time just to see. I look at my history going back to 2023-05-17T13:21:05+0000 and it is all SCC1 and MCM1 (948 SCC and 705 MCM) [Edit 2 times, last edit by BobbyB at May 25, 2023 3:56:04 PM] |

Suggestion:
Try making a minor change in that profile, save the profile, have your device/computer poll WCG to update local profile from WCG and the see if that fixes your problem. Happy Crunching! |

Suggestion: I have tested this. The option doesn't work for MCM. I don't get MCM work with the option selected, but do if I check MCM. The messages in the BOINC history don't look right either.Try making a minor change in that profile, save the profile, have your device/computer poll WCG to update local profile from WCG and the see if that fixes your problem. Happy Crunching! It is hard to test when you must wait 2 minutes to try again. I must admit that is better than the 20 minute wait I have at work to run a query to see if it produces the expected result. My hope is that someone at WCG will look into it. Cheers |

I tried that option ("If there's not work") and it sent me ARP WU's some months ago. I'm not a fan of tying-up machines for the lengthy period of days that ARP requires so didn't continue.
I *did* have issues with a brand new (Windows -- most here are Linux but this came with a COA so I used it) machine for over a week with the bounce-back errors stating there was no work available even while I sat here & watched other machines gobble-up WU's -- the "fix" was to upgrade to the absolute-latest Development edition v7.22.2 BOINC Client here. Others may not experience the same, but I wanted to post my solution in case they experience the same... |
