BOINC will automatically create a password for the client when it starts. This password will be located in the file gui_rpc_auth.cfg. This file will be placed in the directory where boinc was started from.
If you run either the boinc_cmd tool or the boinc_manager tool from the same directory where the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file is located, then they will read the file and connect automatically. If you run them from somewhere else then you will need to provide the password. Let us know if you have further problems. Kevin |

Everthing is in the correct place as installed ... But I still get "incorect password, please try again" ... I'm afraid I have no idea how to extract it or where to use it. I'm a Linux user, not a 'hacker', still learning. regards mucks |

Start BOINC When attaching, it may be nessecary to file - attach to computer and supply the password. |

Thanks for the reply,
But the 'file' in question is empty. ![]() |

Try either deleting the file or putting your own password into the file.

Deleting the file merely gets a new one with a random password placed into it the next time that BOINC is started.
You should be able to open the file, and put the password that you want to use in it. In the BOINC Manager, File select computer. In the space provided for the password, put the password that you put in the file. |

It has been noted as a bug that if this file is empty, then BOINC will not connect properly at start up on the local machine. It HAS been fixed for the next version (5.2.8?).
