WCG not picking up new profile.

I created a new general options (global across all projects) in a different project. It has not been picked up by WCG as it is supposed to be.

Re: WCG not picking up new profile.

John,

Can you describe the scenario you tested? I just did the following and it worked correctly.

1) Take a device that was already attached to World Community Grid and attach it to Seti

2) Go to seti and modify my profile (I changed the CPU execution time) and save.

3) Force an update with Seti and check the file global_prefs.xml to make sure the prefs are present

4) Force an update with World Community Grid.

5) Log into World Community Grid and check the preferences and verify that the cpu time that at set at Seti was reflected in my preferences at World Community Grid.

6) Modify my preferences at World Community Grid (again - I changed the cpu execution time) and save them.

7) Force an update with World Community Grid.

8) Check the global_prefs.xml file to make sure the changes were present.

9) Force an update with Seti

10) Log into Seti and validate that the preferences were properly reflected.

I also tested creating a 'home' profile and that worked properly as well.

If you can describe the scenario that you tested, then I can reproduce it and then fix it.

thanks,
Kevin

Re: WCG not picking up new profile.

1) take a client that exists and is using the default profile everywhere.
2) In S@H mark it as uses work profile.
3) Connect to S@H.
4) I believe that I attached to WCG about here.
5) Create a Work profile for General Preferences only in S@H.
6) Connect to S@H
7) Connect to WCG

Re: WCG not picking up new profile.

John,

Thanks for the details - it helped me recreate the problem.

When you create your account key for BOINC on WCG we are also creating a default profile for you at that time. However, we were setting the last modified field equal to the current time. Thus when you attach to us, this profile is deemed the most recently modified file and thus overwrites the profiles from other projects.

I have modified this so that when you initial default profile is created for you on WCG, the profile created will not overwrite any existing profiles. This fix will be released to production in our next update to the website.

I apologize for any troubles this caused you.

Please note that this only affects existing users of other BOINC projects who create a new account at WCG. It does not affect users of WCG only or users who first register at WCG and then register at other BOINC projects.

Kevin
