Boinc Manager under Windows 11 - problem?

Hello

Has anyone encountered the fact that even though the manager is set to use 50% CPU, it does not work?

I have it set to use 50% of the CPU in my case 10 cores and for a maximum of 50% of the time and since I switched from Win10 to Win11 it uses only 4 cores even though I have 10 projects in the manager.....

under Windows 10 it worked normally

(Just speculating)

Windows 11 is more aware of the Performance and Efficiency architecture that Intel started using. Intel Ark i7-12700K shows 8C/16T Performance, 4C/4T Efficiency. What version of BOINC are you using? Perhaps it's simply taking 50% of the P cores?

Do you have screenshots of how it looks in Windows 11? You shared the Windows 10 screenshots only.

Also, what does the BOINC Event Log say?

  • i5-4590 (Haswell, 4C/4T) @ 3.3 GHz
  • i5-3570 (Broadwell, 4C/4T) @ 3.4 GHz

Re: Boinc Manager under Windows 11 - problem?

WCG appears to be running on the E cores only.
If that is true, WUs should be taking longer to complete on Win11 than Win10.

Are you running Win 11 Version 22H2?
If so, try running WCG using Administrator rights.

Or, disable the E cores in the BIOS.

No E cores and 50% of the CPUs on a i7-12700K should be utilizing 8 cores.

  • i5-3330 (Ivy Bridge, 4C/4T) @ 3.0 GHz

OS Win 11 Version 22H2

I disabled E cores in bios .. and it works :)
well thank you

It is interesting that it worked under Windows 10. Rather, I would think that it will work better under Windows 11, that is, that it will get along with this CPU and not the other way around.

Just going off a feeling here, but I recommend using 50% of the CPUs but always 100% of the time. This way it's not on-off-on-off-on-off which is hot-cold-hot-cold and just feel like it can lead to a shorter CPU life.

+1

% of CPU time set to 100% would complete work quicker with 8 cores still being available for non-WCG tasks.
