I would think they could just post a static screen when the entire site has an outage with a little message stating why the site is down/under construction/etc. Us non social media types would appreciate that. It would be better than what they are now doing. Cheers Hi Sgt.Joe, I sent your suggestion to the team and they are also interested in providing a more detailed error message than a simple "System Error". Thank you Cheers

And of course, to start the new week, the forum went down, yet again.
----------------------------------------This, together with the total lack of communication by Krembil, is really getting old.... EDIT: And Krembil is always good for a new joke (or not): Trying to get back on to the web site to check/retrieve today's Result file, I am greeted with a "Become a partner" page. Are the folks at Krembil really getting this desperate? Ralf [Edit 1 times, last edit by TPCBF at Oct 24, 2022 6:40:16 PM] |

And of course, to start the new week, the forum went down, yet again. Yup - it was out for between an hour and 90 minutes according to the output of a little script I've got that tries to log in to the v3 API once every 15 minutes or so. Partial output for the period in question:2022-10-24 15:07:50 (UTC) -- starting login test I wonder if it was a planned outage? -- it was certainly short, so either it was deliberate or someone spotted it fairly quickly (unless there's now some sort of script in place to try to cleanly restart whatever within the access control stuff breaks!) Bearing in mind that it is still not an official production system I personally can live with short outages with no notice -- however, for a proper live system there needs to be somewhere (and not Twitter/Facebook) where such things can be (and will be) announced. (The WCG home page really should not fail to load properly unless the entire infrastructure is down, so information could be added there once that dependency on the authentication mechanism is resolved) Cheers - Al. [Edit - there was a textual error in the output code -- those timings were milliseconds (not microseconds!), so I've edited the above to reflect that.] [Edit 2 times, last edit by alanb1951 at Oct 26, 2022 3:28:31 AM] |

Why don't they use the BOINC Manager Notices system for outages etc instead of/as well as FB/Twitter... I'm sure someone could show them how.
