Thanks for the input, Ralf. You have added a bit of light to the matter, but as you say, getting the download issue resolved is the big issue right now. I had thought it was fixed, but then it returned with a vengeance. I wish I knew just which HTTP error was getting tossed -- "transient HTTP error" is utterly meaningless.

Well, "transient http error" is actually defined in one of the many RFCs.The actual error code is 503 ("Service unavailable"), which as one of the 5xx series errors is one of the "server side" errors. The exact error message is actually returned in those 107 bytes that show up with an unsuccessful connection (and then shows up as various percentages of the "Progress" column on the Transfer tab). Just a suggestion. Try running the "Run benchmarks" under the tools menu. This may or may not have an effect on your machine's cridit status.

Ralf I don't spend much time (well, none at all, actually) reading RFCs, and have never encountered the phrase before. Until BOINC, I have always been given a numerical code with description, plus a suggested course of action (if applicable). But this is clearly BOINC matter, nothing to do with WCG, so enough said here. BTW, your posts today/yesterday in the threads in News were very helpful for me. As a result, TIL: stop hammering the Retry button, it merely makes things worse :) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 24, 2022 4:19:52 AM] |

Cheers I just had an ARP WU complete with a claimed credit of 593 -- and that was before I ran the benchmark. No idea why, maybe because there was only one other WU running (a LHC ATLAS task), or maybe I have now done enough ARP units to have my system established as "credible" -- or the tides are in phase with the orbit of Jupiter??? Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. At least now I know how many GFLOPs each CPU core is capable of :D |
