Is WCG still running this project? I haven't seen WUs for MCM for a while.. nor for ARP, TB, OPN etc..

I think this thread should be retired for a while. They don't have as much funding as they need, and they are heroically trying to meet the commitment to the current projects they have. I'm grateful and amazed about the amount of effort, time and money they are putting into the ARP project at the moment.
If you know of projects that want to be a part of WCG or have some funding leads then by all means share them, but nagging for new projects is not helpful. |

So the projects that were promised are not coming? then what was the purpose of promising them?
were they never coming? was it always a lie? I'm following up on their promises here, nothing more. And I'm the bad guy for it. |

I don't understand your difficulty; I've been receiving new work on a regular basis up to and including today, 05AUG24. And it continues to arrive.

I don't think you are a bad guy at all. I think they had high expectations for how they could easily move the project. That didn't work out as well as they hoped. I don't think they lie, I think they don't understand how hard computers are. They are biology science people. They did a great job with MCM - their own project. I can get MCM WUs easily.
They have consistently over promised and set dates for when things will happen, but with computers and debugging other people's code that was written for other machines and configurations, it is tough. Even when it is my own code I like to modernize it and rewrite it to make it better, it is hard when it is someone else's old code that you just have to patch up. Legacy code can be a gift that gets you further along in a project, but can also cause problems. I think there is a disconnect between what they want to do, and what they can do. I truly believe they will add more projects some day, but they have the decency to honor their commitment to current projects first. Do you think your nagging will make a difference of when this happens? I don't think this is productive. I get you feel bad. I've been waiting a long time for ARP to return. I'd also love some new projects with new badges, but it is time to accept (or not) the reality that they are making progress, just very very slowly. They are constrained by the money and time they have for WCG. There are lists of available Boinc projects if you need something new. |

Hi Robokapp,
As Unixchick has noted, starting new projects poses challenges in terms of funding and dedicated personnel. That said, we do have one new project on the horizon. We are currently testing the data and creating some background materials to give volunteers an understanding of the project. Stay tuned as we expect this project to launch within the next few months! |
