Re: Invalid rpc password

There is a file called gui_rpc_auth.cfg which would have the password.

You did not mention Win or 'nix. You had to reload the Boinc client. Which version? If I remember right, when logging on to the client locally, it should pick that up automatically. Only when logging in remotely will it ask for a password.

When reloading Boinc on Windows, the file above will have a password in it (auto generated).
It's in the data directory. %systemdrive%\ProgramData\boinc

I'll check a 'nix system for the location. => /etc/boinc-client

Re: Invalid rpc password

So can you get into the Boinc Manager and see the tasks and stuff? Right?
I will presume yes since you see that message and probably in the Notices tab.

I only have one Win10 Pro going, Boinc 7.14.3, and remember reading something about the password in that RPC file which cannot be empty with the latest version of the client. Maybe you are in that situation?

Someone at Berkley decided they knew better than me what my security needs are.

I updated one of my Ubuntus yesterday to 20.04.4 LTS and now see Warning: GUI RPC password is empty. BOINC can be controlled by any user on this computer in the notices.It also updated the Boinc client to 7.18.1 but I can still get into it remotely and locally. It auto filled that RPC file in the past when it was empty.

Which client version are you?

Maybe, like me, you can just ignore it if everything is working perfectly.

Re: Invalid rpc password

And what does that all have to do with the WCG web site?

Re: Invalid rpc password

It has nothing to do with the WCG web site. It should be in the BOINC Agent Support.

So it's in the wrong forum. Why so picky?

And Berkley in my previous post should be Berkeley. There!

If it can help (that person), then who cares about formality.

So why do we then have all those different sub forums to begin with? Let's just post everything just in here instead, OK?

Re: Invalid rpc password

I had that problem on ONE of my systems and also BOINC Manager V 7.20.2 (x64) run both Win10 and Win10pro on my systems but, unfortunately, I didn't take notes. So... A few things you might try:

1) Reboot your PC (this is least invasive option);
2) Reset project;
3) Remove and Add the Project back;
4) reinstall BOINC - version based on your system.

I presume the problem only occurs with one Project.

Let me know how you made out.

Re: Invalid rpc password

I have to shut down the client, remove and reinstall. Hva figured out it only happens if I update to ver 7.20.2, Ver 7.16.11 (x64) seems to run just fine with no errors.

Re: Invalid rpc password

Mine also runs well and it's 7.14.3 from a WCG download. Ver 7.16.11 (x64) is a WCG download. I just checked and 7.20.2 is from Berkeley. So stick with what works. My Berkeley comments above are probably the cause.

True but someone had a problem and posted in the wrong forum so rather than offering a scolding I offered help instead. It's a different approach. The top header of this forum is support.

BTW in every forum available there are people talking about missing/no/lack of WUs available when the right place is NEWS. Are they being scolded also.

And as you can see, the problem is solved in the wrong forum.
