I wrote yesterday:
----------------------------------------I have a number of troublesome tasks. One is still in Pending Verification state since a few days ago while its wingman has already passed validation, also a few days ago: workunit 150845927: ($ wcgstats -wI -=OPN1_0109418_02082) App: OpenPandemics - COVID 19 Well, this one went off the radar after two days waiting for validation/verification, never received a new wingman (if that was needed), and was never awarded any credit ... ... while all the other ones that I mentioned in my post were validated. There has been no clarification re the nature of the upcoming stress test of the Krembil servers on Feb 28.
----------------------------------------Will the test use only internal clusters of devices, or will normal WUs be issued to volunteers? Will the test include GPUs? When IBM conducted stress testing near the start of GPU computing of the OPN work, the servers were initially jammed with the huge numbers of WUs going out and their results returning, so I suggest that the answer should be "yes". Will volunteers need to have any special settings, eg beta testing enabled, to take part? How long will the stress test be active? In my case, I have powered off all devices except the one on which I am typing this message, and on it, BOINC is disabled. About 76% of the electricity here is generated by old coal-fired power stations. It makes no sense to keep idle computers powered on, especially ones with graphics cards. I expect that many volunteers have done similar things, and you may not get a full complement of devices online again for your test. Good luck [Edit 1 times, last edit by Rickjb at Feb 23, 2022 4:42:18 AM] |

It makes no sense to keep idle computers powered on, especially ones with grpahics cards. I would note that an idle graphics card doesn't use a whole lot of power. On my GTX 960, nvidia-smi reports 12W of power consumption at idle, and about 70 or so when crunching OPNG work units. But every watt counts; that idle GPU is roughly the power consumption equivalent of a pair of Raspberry Pi 4s. |

Do we expect a large influx of work on the 28th? Should I keep my devices ready for a major influx as the day approaches?

16 ARPs (_4s and _5s) left, then it's all done.

Good luck A stress test of new hardware in a new data centre would normally be an internal test to allow for finer calibration of the loads involved. |

Finally all validated sometime early this morning, probably prior to 12:00 UTC.

Got one of those emails today from World Community Grid saying "It's been more than XX days since we received any research results from your registered device(s). We hope you'll start contributing again."
You think maybe you guys wanna turn those off until after the transition is completed? So that everyone who reads it doesn't waste their time going back into BOINC, repeatedly changing settings, trying to figure out WHY WCG ISN'T SENDING THEM ANY WORK... only to eventually google and discover that it was NEVER GOING TO because all work has been paused on the server side for weeks? |

A few last Raspberry Pi stragglers finished up, and it's all done. I'm honestly surprised I got anything all in for today.
The move sounds like a logistical nightmare... hope it all goes well. |
