Since Krembil is the group which currently runs MCM, I would presume this project will continue for the foreseeable future. The indications so far for the Childhood Cancer project are it will continue, although it is currently on hiatus. All of the current projects( and future ones no doubt) will be dependent on any number of constraining factors such as available researchers, funding, purpose of the research, practicality of using computational methods to find a solution, etc.
----------------------------------------This is volunteer work and as much as I like to volunteer for projects I believe in, if I cease to see a purpose in the research, I always have the option to leave and devote my resources to other areas. As far as I can see right now, I will continue to contribute at a level I see fit. If further information becomes available for projects with which I am no longer comfortable, I will simply devote my meager resources in a different direction. So far, so good. Cheers
Sgt. Joe

As we outlined earlier, continuing all active projects until the research is completed is the primary goal. We have also stated that while we want to bring new projects - we first need to finalize the transition.
Selecting new research projects requires a combination of scientific, technical and financial considerations. There must also be a research group with interest. Our goals remain - so we plan to always have a cancer-related research project - currently, two projects are devoted to cancer, and will continue. it is encouraging to see volunteers already planning the program expansion - and we are thrilled to be closer to that date. thank you igor |

Thank you; we appreciate the support - and we do realize that individual volunteers may share, or not, the same passion for specific research areas as involved researchers.
Our goal with expanding the diversity of projects is to provide broader options for existing and hopefully capturing interest of new volunteers. indeed - SCC has been intertwining computation on WCG and validation of the results - they are gearing up for new round of computation. thank youi igor |

What a pathetic transition performance!
----------------------------------------I signed up with WCG the first day it went live and have supported it since then. When the old WCG sent out its last wu it had approximately 30,000 active crunchers. It will be quite interesting to see how many return after this transition to Krembil. The current environment of rampant inflation and skyrocketing electricity costs have forced me to look hard at the projects I want to support with my research dollars. Krembil fails on many levels. Sadly, I have removed WCG from my whitelist of projects I support and will not be returning to the project. |

you are absolute correct - GDPR privacy rules - we follow them too - and remove any inactive member after 3 years.
it is harsh and sad to see the active members are relatively small fraction of total members - but - hopefully we will be able to increase that soon with exciting new project and outreach. Thank you all igor |

Don't forget, that cost of energy are exploded in the most countries.
----------------------------------------In Germany I currently have to pay for one kw/h 50 (fifty) cents. That makes it impossible for me, to crunch. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Mathilde2006 at Jun 26, 2022 9:03:47 AM] |

Yes in the Netherlands/Europe it has become very expensive to crunch. I did a quick calculation and running my "relatively old" PC 24/7 would cost me about €500 a year (140 W €0.41 euro/KWh). This is too much for me. Even at 60% CPU without GPU cases, it is still €360 a year.
Also the more energy we consume right now, the higher the energy prices will go. So for the future of the WCG I hope prices will go down significantly in the Future again. |
