Agreed with the setup thing.
----------------------------------------WCG needs to attract and retain members .This is correct. On April 24, 2020, if I had seen Krembil instead of IBM, I'm not sure what my decision would have been.Losing the IBM branding is big. But now that I am here nothing changes. Does it show I have a pro IBM bias? [Edit 1 times, last edit by BobbyB at Oct 13, 2021 8:16:08 PM] |

It is a Brand name thing and the snobbery that goes with it.
I go for what works and what does what I want, whatever the brand. Krembil seems to tick my boxes. And moving from USA to Canada is just another set of ex-colonials for me (tongue in cheek)! Mike |

Me thinks you misunderstood the post.
----------------------------------------Let's imagine that you got to a site, from an ad, which wants you to donate your computer cycles and it says Krembil, which you never heard of, what do you think. What's this? Is it safe? What do they do? Is it just another scam? Now Imagine it says Canonical Ubuntu. "I know this name." It has credibility. You go with what works. How do I know that it works? You have to investigate. Canonical Ubuntu doesn't need the money or cycles so unlikely a scam. IBM says computers. Lot less investigating. Replace Ubuntu or IBM with any brand you trust. There must be one. It simply made joining easier. Now if it had said Google.... What's this with "ex-colonials"? QUOI? I got where you were coming from. IBM are easily recognisable. Canonical Ubuntu not so easily. Krembil I would have to look up especialy from here..
However it is quite easy to discover that they are a highly recognised not-for-profit organisation so would allay any fears I might have. I have no worries about their intentions - I just hope they are up to delivering. As it happens, my professor at Royal Marsden used to work at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. At least Canada is in the Commonwealth! Mike |
