good morning, I only crunch with android devices and wanted to know, if WCG will continue to provide workunits for android systems after the change? br Igelwurst Yes! We won't be making any changes to the current projects, including those that can use power from Android devices. |

1. I want to emphasize the question of whether health related projects will be focused on or even be exclusive in the future. I would love to see more climate related work as well. As there is a vast consensus about climate change induced health related issues (see f.ex. Medical Journals Call Climate Change the ‘Gre...lobal Public Health’(NYT)) this would also be a great fit at the intersection of public health/medicine. 2. Secondly, I am curious about what to expect in terms of the number of concurrent projects. Surely this will vary over time but is the intention to rather focus on a few major research projects or rather to scale up the number of projects supported via the grid (f.ex. 10+ projects some of which might study the same disease etc) 3. Is there any indication about the composition of the future workload in terms of CPU vs GPU work. Especially in the world of medicine a lot of work increasingly gets deployed on GPUs, be it protein folding, docking or other GPU accelerated molecular simulations. Thx in advance for getting back to me. 1. For now, the team will be concentrating on the existing projects. We can't make any guarantees about the future, but Krembil Research Institute very much recognizes that environmental and climate change issues contribute to health and disease. 2. In the past, the number of concurrent projects has depended on the number of proposals received from scientists as well as the size of the World Community Grid staff at any given time. After the transition is complete, we'll have a better idea of what the "sweet spot" might be for the number of projects running concurrently going forward. 3. Whether or not a project runs on GPU is a decision made by each team of scientists for a particular project. There's quite a bit of work to do on their end on the software for each project to get it ready to run GPU. |

Will there be investment in the social media connection aspects of WCG? For example, the current message that gets posted to Twitter isn't very customisable and doesn't read great for organisations/companies that wish to use it: "Supporting humanitarian scientific research is important to me. That's why I've donated 1 year of my computer's processing time to @WCGrid. Join me!" Fixing that, adding support for other social networks, maybe APIs to allow easy widget creation for websites (Wordpress plugins, etc) would all be great too but are these kinds of things more or less likely to happen? I guess what I'm asking is, will Krembil show more love to WCG than IBM have? There are some great suggestions here, all of which would require developer time and/or additional communications staff to implement. Right now, the developers are heads-down on the transition, and the entire comms staff (for the moment) consists of yours truly. ![]() As to Krembil showing love for World Community Grid...they've just signed a legal agreement to take on the program after many months of behind-the-scenes work and legal negotiations. They've sunk time and money into the program already and it's just the start. Speaking for myself personally, I believe they've already shown their commitment to World Community Grid and to volunteer computing, they have a deep well of experience and knowledge from current and past WCG projects, and they have wonderful plans for the future. The transition will take a few months, but I believe it will lead to a wonderful new chapter for volunteer computing. |

Just a quick question for caitilarkin. Are you staying on as the administrator or you also moving on ? (Maybe it is too early to ask this question.) Cheers The current team is staying on as long as we can to help out as much as we can, including me. There's no specific end date for me at this point. |

How much down time are you anticipating due to the move?? Will WCG be down for a day? days? a week? should I make my queue a bit longer so I have some WUs to chew on while you are moving? The tech team will give everyone a heads-up well ahead of time about the date and duration of any outage--right now, we're not totally sure about either. The cut-over is not going to happen immediately. |

Will IBM retain the trademark "World Community Grid" or will it be transferred to Krembil?
----------------------------------------This will have a bearing on how the stat's services (BOINCStats, DCStats, etc.) handle the change. If the name changes the stats services can retire the WCG project and start a new one under the new name or simply change the WCG project's name. OR If the trademark transfers to Krembil, no action is necessary. Cheers ![]() |

Are there plans to make software and/or wrappers open source? It would make building applications on greater number of platforms and packaging for source-based distributions possible.

CyberTailor,
----------------------------------------Some of the software is open-source and some isn't. However, I wouldn't think WCG would desire for people to build their own apps due to possible issues with validation. Caitilarkin, will there be a new progress system or will the current one remain with the new website? New badges? Or are these surprises? Also, on a functionality level, will the new website be more compatible with mobile devices? AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz [Edit 2 times, last edit by Falconet at Sep 17, 2021 3:59:40 PM] |

Also, on a functionality level, will the new website be more compatible with mobile devices? The current progress system will still be in place. There will be at least one The most commonly used pages on the website will be responsive and have been tested extensively for mobile devices. (This doesn't include the forum, which is on a different software platform from the website.) [Edit 1 times, last edit by caitilarkin at Sep 17, 2021 4:54:00 PM] |
