Thank you.I will have to read that all couple more times to make sure I have my head around it.
----------------------------------------So, if boinc manager is showing tasks currently crunching, with a due date of 12th July - that is my time and they are already overdue so I need to abort them? Is the "7 days to complete" set in concrete? I think I will have to change my preferences to only get enough work for one day, rather than three. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by justakiwibird at Jul 13, 2021 12:30:07 AM] |

So, if boinc manager is showing tasks currently crunching, with a due date of 12th July - that is my time and they are already overdue so I need to abort them? No need to abort. Edit: Unless the task is more then a few days overdue then I guess you may abort. Most of the time, the server can accept and go valid and earn some credits on overdue tasks, as long as a task resend haven't yet returned the result. If an overdue task have finally returned as valid, there can be "server aborted" on a resent task, if a resend task have not yet started. This can reduce the amount of wasted computation as well. Thanks for that.
----------------------------------------I changed my computing preferences to fetch only enough work for one day, but it is still fetching too much work at a time for me. How does boinc calculate how much "enough for one day" is, given that we all have vastly different crunching devices? Is there any way to enforce something like "only fetch 4 WU at each fetch"? Crunching on an older laptop which is not "always on" - most it can do is maybe 8 hours a day. It can only get through 3 WU in that time on average. ![]() |

I changed my computing preferences to fetch only enough work for one day, but it is still fetching too much work at a time for me. Try 0 days of work, 0.02 additional days of work.Specific to World Community Grid only, can limit max number of tasks. On this website go to Settings, Device manager, Click on Default or any profile, go all the way down to project limits. Can change if you want to, then click "Save". |

Hi justakiwibird,
----------------------------------------Me again. You posted on Jul 12, 2021 11:04:54 AM: Doesn't seem to be any way to post a screenshot here ![]() There are several ways to incorporate an image on this forum. (Let's assume you don't have a server all for yourself.) First, you'd have to find a site where you can upload images. (Google: "upload images" or "image hosting") Then you'd upload your image there. Next, they'll give you a link to your uploaded image. Copy that link and paste the URL of the image into your message using the 'Image' button on 'our' forum. (When you click the 'Image' button, that you can find between 'Email' and 'Code', a dialog will appear: Enter the text to be formatted:Then you can paste the URL of the image link into the dialog field. Make sure that the URL is a direct link to the picture and not an indirect link. Example. This is an indirect link: https://atrl.net/forums/topic/288711-ava-max-whos-laughing-now/ This is a direct link: https://i.imgur.com/nbr0iTg.jpg The code in your message would then look like: [img]https://i.imgur.com/nbr0iTg.jpg[/img] Suppose you would choose imgbb.com; after uploading your image on imgbb.com you will be redirected to a page where you can get your link... ("Upload complete"). There, just beneath 'Embed codes' you can click on the first field ("Viewer links"); choose e.g. 'BBCode full linked'; you will see something like [url=https://ibb.co/cJ6QPPC][img]https://i.ibb.co/LSx1MMJ/Screenshot-2021-07-13-11-20-27.png[/img][/url]. Extract the URL of the image, that is the text between [img] and [/img]. Paste it into the field that pops up after clicking 'Image' (underneath 'Size'): ![]() The result will look like: ![]() Then click OK. Here is a sample of a screenshot for one of my own Results Status pages: ![]() Remember, the link to the details of this result (when clicking the Result Name MIP1_00336591_1885_0) will only last for a few hours/days, until the result has been purged from the system. ![]() Of course, you could also find this useful script handy. After configuring your credentials like mailaddress and password (and maybe your device(s)) into the script you can already use it and run it like this: (-w to download and process a Results Status page, -Q to omit the extension ('0--') that specifies my own result, -sN to select only "No Reply" results) The output would look like: MIP1_00336591_1885_1-- Linux - In Progress 7/4/21 15:36:15 7/14/21 15:36:15 0.00 0.0 / 0.0Omitting the option -Q would yield: 0--(I've omitted the device names because of the length of the lines.)[Edit 4 times, last edit by adriverhoef at Jul 14, 2021 8:56:00 AM] |

I noticed the same thing on my slow laptops. They generate a ton of "Errors" on Result Status page for the work that hasnt been started by the deadline. Shouldn't the message be "too late" or "server aborted" instead?

I noticed the same thing on my slow laptops. They generate a ton of "Errors" on Result Status page for the work that hasnt been started by the deadline. Shouldn't the message be "too late" or "server aborted" instead? First of all, those tasks weren't aborted by the server but cancelled by the client instead, so Server Aborted would be wrong; Client Aborted would be more appropriate. Too Late means 'too late to validate', meaning: a result has been returned to the server to validate, but that also didn't happen in this case. So, 'Error' is appropriate. |

Thanks for clarification :-) Anyways, "error" just seems a bit misleading :-)
