Hi
----------------------------------------I have just recently come back to Linux and am back crunching. For the first few days everything was hunky dory, but I have just checked my results status and there are a heap of errors. Mostly for Open Pandemic work units. A couple show "no reply" and the rest just show "error." Is there a log somewhere that will give me some better info about why these errors have suddenly started occurring, or what is causing them? Many thanks in advance. ![]() |

Hi there.
Yes, there is a log. In BOINC Manager, click on Tools and then on Event Log. This should give you some idea of what is causing the problem. If the solution to the problem is not obvious, then highlight the relevant entries in the Event Log, click 'Copy Selected' and paste them into a reply to this post. I am sure someone on the forum will then be able to help you (though possibly not me, as I am a newbie cruncher ).Cheers, Mark |

Hi Mark
----------------------------------------Yes I am aware of that event log, but it doesn't help me in this situation. These work units all crunched and completely with no issues. No errors in that log. The errors I am referring to are what the work units returned after they were uploaded. I can see the errors under "Results Status" when I log into my WCG user account. Where most results show "Valid", these are showing "error." Doesn't seem to be any way to post a screenshot here ![]() ![]() |

Go to this page https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewBoincResults.do
----------------------------------------Find a task that errored out and click on "error". Then copy the log and paste it here. The first 60 lines of the event log could also be useful. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

The simplest thing to do is to shutdown and restart. This may not fix it, but it will return your system to a clean start. The only reason I suggest this is because you stated the system ran fine the first few days. The second thing which comes to mind is a possible heat issue afte the system has been running for a while. The third thing which may be it is a memory problem. Run a memory test for a while and see if any errors occur.

What is the sent time and return time?
Is it 7 days or longer? Note: some tasks have shorter deadlines. CPU time is 0.00? Go to website results and click on "Error", what does it show? If clicking on "error" show almost nothing, went past 7 or 3.5 days, and CPU time is 0.00, then this likely should be "Not started by deadline - canceled". Unsure why World Grid Community show this as "ERROR". I often see this "Error" on some very old results on some other computers. Boinc source code, html/inc/result.inc have stage_string function. My guess is World Grid Community website does not appear to fully follow the state_string function. |

Here is an example of what I see under "Results Status":
----------------------------------------OPN1_0055844_01995_0 carren-Satellite-L50D-A Error 7/4/21 02:38:51 7/11/21 02:39:03 0.00 / 0.00 82.6 / 0.0 OPN1_0055840_02562_0 carren-Satellite-L50D-A Error 7/4/21 02:38:51 7/11/21 02:39:03 0.00 / 0.00 82.6 / 0.0 OPN1_0055840_02572_0 carren-Satellite-L50D-A Error 7/4/21 02:38:51 7/11/21 02:39:03 0.00 / 0.00 82.6 / 0.0 As you can see they were all completed and sent well before the deadline date, but CPU time is showing as 0. Which makes absolutely NO sense as I know for sure they crunched (I have been checking task progress regularly since I started crunching again). When I click on the highlighted error links, there is literally no info there (unlike what I see when I do the same with a "valid" result). This is all that I see: Result Log Result Name: OPN1_ 0055840_ 02572_ 0-- <core_client_version>7.16.6</core_client_version> I have just realised all these errors were for work units sent on 4th July. No idea whether that is of any significance, as some work units were valid on that date- I can't think of anything out of the ordinary that occurred at my end on that date. I guess I'll just put it down to a random glitch, as there don't appear to have been any further errors since that date. Thanks everyone for your help ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by justakiwibird at Jul 12, 2021 9:56:42 PM] |

The deadline is 7 days from your date of reception. |

OK, I'm confused. I thought the "Time Due/return time" figure was the date and cut-off time for WU to be completed and uploaded. Is that incorrect?
----------------------------------------If "sent" refers to the date WU were downloaded to my machine - I received them at 02:38:51. Are you saying I missed the deadline by less than ONE minute???? Which brings me to my next question - where in the above copy and paste, is the date those WU were uploaded back to WCG? EDIT: something just occurred to me. Are the due dates displayed in boinc manager in my time zone? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by justakiwibird at Jul 12, 2021 11:09:01 PM] |

OK, I'm confused. I thought the "Time Due/return time" figure was the date and cut-off time for WU to be completed and uploaded. Is that incorrect? If a result hasn't been returned to the server yet, then it is the Time Due that applies. As soon as a result has been returned to the server, it is the Return Time that applies. If "sent" refers to the date WU were downloaded to my machine - I received them at 02:38:51. Are you saying I missed the deadline by less than ONE minute???? No. There is another reason as to what happened. Those tasks haven't been started in time (before the deadline), so they have been cancelled by your client and this was reported back to the server. Which brings me to my next question - where in the above copy and paste, is the date those WU were uploaded back to WCG? Well, they were reported back to the server as cancelled at the time that is displayed there. EDIT: something just occurred to me. Are the due dates displayed in boinc manager in my time zone? Yes. On the server they are displayed in UTC though. [Edit 1 times, last edit by adriverhoef at Jul 13, 2021 12:05:28 AM] |
