Re: GPU Work Units - Post Your Tech Support Questions Here

NB: Before posting this, I noticed KLiK had already answered your question. And now KLiK's answer is gone … Nonetheless, for those who are interested, here goes my stab at it …

First off, you'll have to know which science apps are providing GPU work.

Then, easiest answer to me is to run from the Linux commandline:
  • wcgresults -dqqql0 # after configuring your credentials only once.

    The answer will show up as something like:
    2021-11-18 19:19:07 arp1:6 hst1:3 mcm1:192 opn1:192 opng:33 = 426 @ 3

    Here, the total number of tasks in the queues of all (my) devices is 426 (= 426) and the total number of (my) current devices is 3 (@ 3).
    If you look more closely, you'll notice that the science apps are ordered alphabetically, while 'opng' denotes OPNG tasks. (Can you see how many OPNG tasks there are in my queue?)

    PS The dumbest question is the one that wasn't asked. wink

    Can you see how many OPNG tasks there are in my queue?

    you have 33 opng

    First off, you'll have to know which science apps are providing GPU work.

    well according to this page only open pandemics does

    I assume, then:
    arp = africa rainfall project
    hst = help stop tuberculosis
    mcm = mapping cancer markers
    opn = open pandemics
    opng = open pandemic gpu?
    (seems too common sense now -face palm-)

    For me, I only show mcm, opn and arp, even though i am signed up for hst and on the hardware side gpu work. reading through the thread it seems gpu work can be rare. But also seeing how some people do have trouble getting gpu tasks I am still left wondering if i'm setup properly to receive gpu tasks, all the settings make sense and the log shows it recognises my gpu card.

    Is there a way to see how past results were processed (cpu vs gpu)? maybe i just happen to always look at the queue in between gpu tasks.

    I will answer my own question for anyone else also wondering

    Is there a way to see how past results were processed (cpu vs gpu)?

    easiest (for me) was to search the log for "opng". I couldn't find a command under "boinccmd --help" but if you have the gui go to: Tools > event log

    I assume this means I haven't had any gpu tasks.

    I will use this script to regularly update the project
    cd e:\Program Files\BOINC
    e:
    :loop
    boinccmd.exe --project http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org update

    TIMEOUT /T 128 /nobreak
    goto loop

    The Event Log tells me that Tasks for GPU are available but my preferences are set not to accept them. However, in Activity I have it set at "Use GPU always." I clearly have something wrong here and wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction.

    WCG is still in test mode and only releasing a few work units at a time. As far as i can tell there have been no Tasks for GPU released yet.

    I get the same message in the Event Log. Both web and local preferences are set to use GPU's. I understand there haven't been any GPU tasks released yet. Just wondering about the source of the message. It seems to appear in random update requests.

    I am also getting the same message in Event log but I have tried with boinc and web preferences set to use gpu. I understand that at August 23 New Zealand time, gpu tasks are available.
