GPU crunching is suspended. No GPU work is being sent out. See: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg...d,43361_offset,140#665509 Thanks!! Papa Ryzen 5 3600 / Mama Radeon RX 560 |

gpu work drags on past 100% completion into 1hr30min activity, then if i click suspend, it disappears. No trace of it in the "results" page.
----------------------------------------If the machine is left unattended while gpu work is active, output to screen freezes, making the computer unusable. Is this software supposed to be this unstable? im on the same machine that has crunched tens of gpu tasks in the past, and the card is from 2017 Edit with solution: see my next post in this thread. gpu work drags on past 100% completion into 1hr30min activity, then if i click suspend, it disappears. No trace of it in the "results" page. So it disappears from the BOINC Manager? Check the "Tasks" tab and make sure it's set to "show all tasks" and not just the active ones. As for the results tab, it should be there. If the machine is left unattended while gpu work is active, output to screen freezes, making the computer unusable. Did this ever happen while running OPNG? Or is it something that only started recently? Is this software supposed to be this unstable? im on the same machine that has crunched tens of gpu tasks in the past, and the card is from 2017 It's not supposed to be unstable, no. The only reports I recall regarding output freeze were usually only older cards. I never had any issues on my RX 550 (also from 2017, IIRC). So it disappears from the BOINC Manager? Check the "Tasks" tab and make sure it's set to "show all tasks" and not just the active ones. As for the results tab, it should be there. My bad, it doesn't disappear, but is instead reset to 0% and goes back to the OPNG to-do pool (i didn't notice until i compared the numbers). Stopping GPU computation at any time resets the activity to 0%, and activities never complete when reaching 100%, they just drag on.Did this ever happen while running OPNG? Or is it something that only started recently? Not at all, it started very recently but the machine has been the same. The things that have changed are:
Edit 1: i forgot to mention, i'm running debian 11 stable and i have the open source mesa graphic stack, but since its stuck at opencl 1.1 i was forced to install AMDGPU opencl drivers from AMD in headless mode (they don't substitute mesa). I wil now try different configurations. Edit 2: GPU is somehow working even when GPU computation is suspended. I don't have any other program opened and while normally idle at 36C, it stays now at 46C (50C is max computing) and radeontop shows a lot of activity. I have no way of saying what activity is this. Edit 3: Radeontop shows all 0% but shader interpolator and shader clock at 100% Edit 4 [SOLUTION]: for future wanderers, solution to this problem was to remove the open source opencl mesa implementation package, named "mesa-opencl-icd". after that its just a matter of installing the right amdgpu driver with ./amdgpu-install --headless --no-dkms --opencl=legacy Papa Ryzen 5 3600 / Mama Radeon RX 560 [Edit 4 times, last edit by Biscotto at Sep 28, 2021 12:55:04 PM] |

As a relative newbie, I'm trying to understand why 2 of my hosts will not download OPNG GPU work units. Both Win10 pc's. One has GTX1080, the other RTX3070.
Neither unit has any difficulty with other BOINC projects or with F@H. It seems that something is causing scheduling back off with properties messages showing NVIDIA GPU task request deferred for XX:XX:XX - often several hours with continuing escalation. Both PC's run WCG CPU work units without hesitation. GPU useage is activated in device profiles. In the interests of sorting this out, I have suspended all non-WCG projects. I am not sure even if any OPNG GPU work units are available to download - there does not appear to be any Server Status (like some other BOINC projects). Any ideas?? |

Hey there,
in my perception there is more work for nvidias than for radeon cards. I know there are more users with a nvidia card than a radeon. But in my perception nvidia cards get work more often. Is this right? and if yes what can you do to generate more work for radeon cards? Thank you. |

I don't think that is true, Daniel.
----------------------------------------The AutoDock application used by OPNG is exactly the same for Nvidia and AMD cards. Tasks aren't specifically generated for AMD or Nvidia. A task only becomes an "Nvidia or AMD task" once it's actually assigned to a device. Hey Falconet,
so i understand nvidia and AMD cards are all using the same OpenCL-Work untis. Thank you for clearing this up. |
