Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 5 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Figured out my AMD GPU problem:

OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: Radeon RX550/550 Series (POLARIS12, DRM 3.40.0, 5.11.1-arch1-1, (driver version 20.3.4, device version OpenCL 1.1 Mesa 20.3.4
OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon (TM) Pro WX 3200 Series (POLARIS12, DRM 3.40.0, 5.11. (driver version 20.3.4, device version OpenCL 1.1 Mesa 20.3.4

OpenCL 1.2 was defined in 2012, so it never occurred to me that GPUs I picked up last year might not support it. Meanwhile, the 750 Ti from 2014:

OpenCL: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 750 Ti (driver version 460.39, device version OpenCL 1.2 CUDA

Today I Learned.

you should have OpenCL 2.1 support on that RX550 card. Both cards are Polaris12 so that should be no problem. I have the RX550 myself in a PC, running latest AMD drivers for it and it has been crunching away with no problems.

Thanks for saying this; it made me look a little deeper. It's a Linux problem, and more specifically a Mesa/AMD problem. Until October of 2020 the Mesa OCL implementation was 1.1-only. It's now almost entirely 1.2 compliant... but it lacks support for 'new image types', so the driver still only advertises 1.1

If anyone else is interested, this is covered in this article and its comments. There are possible some workarounds in the comments. Also, Mesa OCL feature support is trackable here.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 5 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

I got 10 WUs total. 6 on my Linux machine and 4 under Windows 10. All ran without problems.
GPU-Usage under Windows looks like this on a GTX 1660S:

The GPU seems to be idle half the time. Does it always look like this confused

Edit: I noticed that this time the Linux machine got 2 WUs for the Intel GPU (HD630) as well, which finished rather fast(0.08 and 0.2 hours). While the slightly faster NVidia GT 740 took up to 2.51 hours to finish a WU. Did the WUs for the Intel GPU contain less work?

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 5 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Due to lots of lags I set "Do work on my graphics card while computer is in use?" to No but is seems doesn't work: my GeForce GTX 745 is still crunching full time after Project Update.

Btw: For now 3 beta 7.26 in pv without errors (33, 45 and 47 minutes)

Between every AutoDock calculation (up to 50 per OPG-Task) the GPU is stopped for a few seconds. This is a normal function.

@zdnko

Make sure your client is set to compute according Activity > Run based on preferences.

There's a period of time that the CPU needs to do the housekeeping between each job and the packaging afterwards of the whole.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 5 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Hi,

I got 2 WUs. Both completed without errors. (~30-40 minutes each).

However, system was very laggy and almost not usable during computation. GPU temperature was moderate (58°C max, surprisingly low). GPU Load, as indicated by MSI Afterburner, varied between 100% and 0% in about 20 to 30 seconds intervals (~30s 100%, ~5s 0%).

Nvidia GTX 770, Driver 461.72

I forced prefs from wcg and now gpu crunch stopped.

I hoped it was a project prefs so i can be able to crunch for another one that doesn't lag my pc when in use (srbase), but it's global. ;-(

Thanks anyway
