Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 27 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Yeah getting some more now. The expected credits/task isn't exactly something to write home about, 2.6 laughing

My iGPU though has quota problems, due to the last "failed" Beta test, when all iGPU tasks for everyone errored out. So, I only got one iGPU task before the message: This computer has finished a daily quota of 1 tasks

Also wondered about the low credits a few days ago. The first beta runs gave normal credits.

Widdershins,

Nvidia GT 730? Techpowerup says it's OpenCL 1.1 so it can't run OPNG.

Odd that, I included a report on the previous page outlining the cards reported capabilities. The most relevant part is repeated below.

===================================[ OpenCL Capabilities ]
- Num OpenCL platforms: 1
- CL_PLATFORM_NAME: NVIDIA CUDA
- CL_PLATFORM_VENDOR: NVIDIA Corporation
- CL_PLATFORM_VERSION: OpenCL 1.2 CUDA 10.0.132
- CL_PLATFORM_PROFILE: FULL_PROFILE
- Num devices: 1

- CL_DEVICE_NAME: GeForce GT 730
- CL_DEVICE_VENDOR: NVIDIA Corporation
- CL_DRIVER_VERSION: 416.34
- CL_DEVICE_PROFILE: FULL_PROFILE
- CL_DEVICE_VERSION: OpenCL 1.2 CUDA
- CL_DEVICE_TYPE: GPU
- CL_DEVICE_VENDOR_ID: 0x10DE
=============================

Now I believe it isn't capable of running the latest version of CUDA, but as this project doesn't use that it shouldn't matter. If I could find a test program that definitively proved it was capable of doing the full range of OpenCL 1.2 operations correctly I would give it a go. Unfortunately I can only find tests that prove it can do OpenCL, but not which version.

Interestingly this link to the same site https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gt-730.c1988 suggests it is capable of OpenCL1.2 perhaps there are different versions of the card out there. confused

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 27 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

widdershins,

Unfortunately there is a large class of bad graphics cards that I can't prevent from getting work. I do not know why those cards are failing at the moment, but they cause a large amount of error results on the database. I'm going to be exploring the version number that they use for their drivers and things along those lines to see if I can prevent these GPU's from grabbing work in the future.

Here is a quick view at the GPUs reported that failed on more than 5 hosts.

[CUDA|GeForce GT 710
[CUDA|GeForce GT 730
[CUDA|Quadro K2000
[CUDA|GeForce GT 750M
[CUDA|GeForce GT 640
[CUDA|GeForce 210
[CUDA|GeForce GTX 660
[CUDA|Quadro 2000
[CUDA|GeForce GT 650M
[CUDA|Quadro K2200
[CUDA|GeForce GT 730M
[CUDA|GeForce GT 630
[CUDA|GeForce GT 720
[CUDA|GeForce GTX 550 Ti
[CUDA|GeForce GTX 645
[CUDA|GeForce GTX 650
[CUDA|GeForce GT 740M
[CUDA|GeForce GT 755M
[CAL|AMD Radeon(TM) Vega 8 Graphics
[CUDA|Quadro 600

My fear is that NVIDIA did something for 1.2 that causes an issue with these devices. This will probably be on a todo list of mine soon, but at the moment, they error out pretty consistently.

Something to note: I am sending out results to hosts that only report that OpenCL 1.2 is supported on their system. Basically, if your client says it can support 1.2 then I am sending results. I have included additional logic in the recording of that data into the host table for boinc as well as version numbers to see if I can see a pattern. But again, need more data :) so i guess we will have to run more betas.

I am going to let things run overnight and tomorrow I will attempt the new validation and assimilation logic.

Again, THANK YOU to everyone for your help and I hope we can get a majority of these issues behind us quickly and get to production!

Note: There will be another beta for atleast 2 things in the future. 1. Production workunits from the researchers. 2. Updated for the stderr logging for bad atom types in the ligands.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 27 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Maybe do something about the crazy checkpointing of this app (Nvidia and iGPU). They're checkpointing like crazy (seconds in between), and does not obey the checkpoint setting intervals in BOINC.

With such fast crunching as with the GPU, it's no point in checkpointing so often.

No rest there for the HDD, or SSD.

Edit: With only the app and BOINC running on that computer (not this one) the checkpointing makes the HD work 7% of the time. Way too much IMO. It chekpoints so fast anbd often, that BoincTasks isn't able to register every checkpoint, but it resets the checkpoint timer every 4-5 seconds.

There is one GT730 that does not have opencl 1.2, according to wikipedia and nvidia. If it has 128 bit memory interface, it is the card that doesn't support it. The nvidia control panel should list the capabilities of that card.

@Grumpy Swede,

BTW, love the name :)

We are in discussion with the researchers on the complexity of the work units to run on GPU. Since we are going to be running two different queues, the work units for GPU can run the larger more complicated ligands.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

OK, but the app doesn't have to checkpoint like crazy, does it? smile
If you shut down the computer, and it has to restart the GPU WU from the beginning, it's so damned fast, that you'll never notice.
It's the most disk intensive app or program, I've ever had on any of my computers.

PS. I'm not really that Grumpy, as the nick might make you believe smile

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 27 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

I have to report that the estimated time is totally wrong with my I7-7820 and GTX1080.

The estimation says about 1h20 and the real time of execution is 3 or 4 minutes.

And i think that the GPU is CPU limited. The task manager show that the GPU load is only during the half-time.
Maybe it will be usefull to have two WU for one GPU.
