Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 27 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

One machine with a GeForce GTX 660 running WCG and a 1050 Ti running GPUGrid.

3 tasks. 2 succeeded (~30min), one failed, although it seems to have failed for everyone at the same point: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/...s.do?workunitId=550356570

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 27 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

.... For GPU they run lots of ligands in a single work unit due to the speed of the calculations.

Thanks,
-Uplinger
Speed of calculation is relevant. The range in performance of GPU's is much greater than of CPU's.
I'm running atm a 60 jobs task on a R3 graphics apu and after 15 hours 89% done.

Must have been something wrong with that machine.
I restarted the PC and now the GPU-task with 60 jobs inside was ready within 4 hours.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 27 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

One of my machines has an RX 550 (GCN4/Polaris/Lexa). It seems to just hang on these WUs. Not as in "lock up", but as in "take forever while never completing".

I can't say what was happening early on, but I can report that it took three hours for a WU to go from 97% to 99% complete. Then about six hours to go from 99% to 100%, and the WU has just been sitting at 100% complete for over 10 hours now.

During all of this, the GPU appeared to be in a basically idle state (9W (nine watts) reported power usage). Unsure if this is a one-off, or if it will happen with all WUs. Also unsure if this is a WU problem or a GPU problem, though this GPU has been successfully doing work for Einstein@Home.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 27 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Have I done something wrong in my setup, or is there no beta units?

I have beta testing enabled, "Allow research to run on my CPU?" set to "No" (to prevent getting other tasks) and all of the 'Graphics Card Usage' section set to "Yes".

My WCG client is set to 'Use GPU Always' and is using web preferences from WCG.

However I've not recieved a single work unit so far.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 27 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Gazza, there have been very few hours worth of beta units released.

The more powerful computers can snatch them up very quickly.
You do not need to turn off research on your CPUs. Regularly turning in CPU work is a great way to trigger regular status checks with the server.

Turning off CPU work will possibly be a good idea, for the OpenPandemics project only, but only once the project launches. You still want to do work on the other projects.

I had seen people posting results since, so I thought it had been fixed.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 27 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

unsure if this is a WU problem or a GPU problem

Still can't definitvely say which, but it's happening with this GPU and all WUs from that batch. I rebooted the machine and watched the next one run:

Workunit Stat Prog ETA Dline
BETA_OPNG_0021023_00089_0 Run 47.24% 39m04s 2d22h # 0h:38 uptime
BETA_OPNG_0021023_00089_0 Run 78.74% 22m52s 2d21h # 1h:27
BETA_OPNG_0021023_00089_0 Run 97.95% 4m26s 2d19h # 3h:36
BETA_OPNG_0021023_00089_0 Run 98.22% 3m59s 2d19h # 3h:43
BETA_OPNG_0021023_00089_0 Run 99.40% 1m41s 2d18h # 4h:43
BETA_OPNG_0021023_00089_0 Run 99.91% 0m20s 2d16h # 6h:27

...and I feel like I know how the rest plays out.

I've put this machine on another profile for now, with GPU-compute disabled.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - Feb 27 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

Well, I'm shutting down my GPU cruncher, until there's some GPU work to crunch.
(Or maybe it's back to Alpha with the apps?)
