Re: AMD HD6570 on Linux Mint 18

I just recently installed a fresh copy of Linux Mint 20 MATE edition. Immediately after installation reboot, I installed AMD Linux graphics driver 20.40 for an RX 560 card before I applied ANY Mint updates. I installed the AMD driver for opencl only (instructions in the driver docs). After reboot everything went great. Then applied all Mint updates, then installed Boinc from Software Sources. All works great...just as easy as Windows without the big $$$.

Based on my research, Mint 18 is based on Ubuntu 16.04. There is no support for your card in the AMD driver package for this Ubuntu base. See below:

Re: AMD HD6570 on Linux Mint 18

I thank you all for your feedback and inputs.
I resigned and the GPU card is back in its package box.
After I will migrate to LinuxMint 20, I will buy a new GPU card; still having to choose between AMD and Nvidia ...
Cheers,
Yves

Re: AMD HD6570 on Linux Mint 18

did some more digging...I found AMD Radeon HD 6570 is only Open CL 1.1 so it will not work...1.2 or more is required.

You sure? Techpowerup says it's 1.2 capable.

Re: AMD HD6570 on Linux Mint 18

looks like you would need an NVIDEA card in the Gforce 900 series or better to be safe.
