What's going on here? One of my machines has 2 AMD GPUs, when it contacts WCG, it says either "Requesting new tasks for CPU" or "not requesting tasks: don't need (CPU: not highest priority project; AMD/ATI GPU: ). Another machine has 1 AMD GPU and built in Intel graphics, it says "Requesting tasks for Intel GPU". Why are they asking for Intel GPU work and not AMD GPU work? They're both in the same device profile, with all options for different subprojects, testing, beta, GPU, other projects etc ticked.
Yes I'm aware there is not yet any GPU work, but I wanted them to be ready for when there is. |

As long as not project does support GPU at WCG, there will be "no work available for GPU".

I recall someone else raised this sometime in the last several months.
----------------------------------------I believe the "Intel-Only" message is of no consequence as long as both GPU's are recognised by the BOINC Client. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

I recall someone else raised this sometime in the last several months. They are both recognised. But I have two PCs in question here:I believe the "Intel-Only" message is of no consequence as long as both GPU's are recognised by the BOINC Client. PC 1) Has two AMDs. PC 2) Has one AMD and one Intel. PC 1 does not ask for GPU work at all, only CPU work, this one will therefore never know there is GPU work available. PC 2 is only asking for Intel work, now if WCG produces AMD work and not Intel, this PC will also never get any GPU work, because it does not ask for AMD work. |

Peter,
I have just posted something about this (without the Intel bit!) in the Open Pandemics thread in which you asked a similar question. That might explain why it doesn't ask for AMD work! As for the Intel bit; I wonder if that's a hang-over from the days when only AMD and NVIDIA GPUs were considered? If the server doesn't tell the client that there's no work for Intel GPUs because it doesn't consider Intel GPUs for some reason, it presumably won't send a "no work available" notification and your system will ask! I can't personally test this as I don't have any machines with Intel GPU OpenCL available (and don't intend to add them for my underpowered Intel GPUs!) Hope this helps - Al. |

I don't use the Intel GPU, it's pointless. It does precisely the same amount of calculations as the CPU does if left to be a CPU only. Any time it gets Intel work, I just switch off Intel on that project. |
