Since I have an older Radeon HD 6570 available, I've installed it on a Linux Mint 18 x64 machine, having already an Intel GPU on board.
----------------------------------------The screen will remain connected to the on-board GPU and the HD 6570 should be used only for crunching. Linux Mint detect the GPU card: lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|3D|Display'However Boinc reports: No usable GPUs found The device profile contents: Do work on my graphics card while computer is in use? YESWhat do I do wrong? Does the HD6570 meet the current requirements for the GPU version of OPN1? According to the data sheet, the GPU card should be able to support OpenCL 1.2. BOINC isn't detecting any of the GPU's so it looks like a driver issue.
----------------------------------------I can't really access my LM 20 install right now, but my RX 550 is being detected correctly. However, I may have had to install some OpenCL stuff using Synaptic to make it work. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Does the HD6570 meet the current requirements for the GPU version of OPN1? I think it does, you only need to find a suitable driver. Which is impossible. Your radeon driver, as well as amdgpu, is only a display driver. The old AMD driver (fglrx) has been discontinued years ago and the new driver (amdgpu pro) only supports the latest GPUs and only few distributions anyway, I think not including Mint. Then there's Mesa Clover which is independent of a graphics driver but only gives you OpenCL 1.1. Sorry you're lost, as am I with my two HD 7750. |

Thank you for the feedback.
----------------------------------------I've just lost too many hours today for trying to setup card and driver correctly. @Falconet: If you can get the list of the needed packages, it would be really great. Cheers, Yves |

So, these are the packages I installed back in September 2020:
----------------------------------------boinc (7.16.6+dfsg-1) boinc-client (7.16.6+dfsg-1) boinc-manager (7.16.6+dfsg-1) lib32gcc-s1 (10-20200411-0ubuntu1) lib32gcc1 (1:10-20200411-0ubuntu1) lib32stdc++6 (10-20200411-0ubuntu1) libboinc7 (7.16.6+dfsg-1) libc6-i386 (2.31-0ubuntu9.1) libclang-common-10-dev (1:10.0.0-4ubuntu1) libclc-amdgcn (0.2.0+git20190827-4ubuntu0.1) libclc-dev (0.2.0+git20190827-4ubuntu0.1) libclc-r600 (0.2.0+git20190827-4ubuntu0.1) libwxbase3.0-0v5 (3.0.4+dfsg-15build1) libwxgtk-webview3.0-gtk3-0v5 (3.0.4+dfsg-15build1) libwxgtk3.0-gtk3-0v5 (3.0.4+dfsg-15build1) mesa-opencl-icd (20.0.8-0ubuntu1~20.04.1) The GCN you can ignore since it's not for your card. Having BOINC installed means several of the others are already installed. I think you could try installing the mesa package but assuming you could get BOINC to recognize the card... it will say OpenCL 1.1 which is what Floyd was talking about. OPN requires 1.2 So, it's either not use the card at all or install Windows and see if the most recent drivers for that card work :( ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz [Edit 1 times, last edit by Falconet at Feb 20, 2021 7:51:01 PM] |

Hi Falconet,
----------------------------------------I thank you for your feedback. However none of the packages mentioned on your list seems to be available for my particular platform. Usually I do prefer ADM/ATI GPU rather than Nvidia. Based on this experience, should I consider to buy in the future Nvidia GPU rather than AMD? Cheers, Yves |

I don't have experience with Nvidia but I believe their Linux support is better.

I have had very good luck with AMD gpu's in Linux Mint but the drivers from AMD can be tricky. The trick seems to be matching the build number from AMD to your version of Linux and its kernel. I am using RX 560/570/580 versions and have been very happy with them.

ditto, but also I THINK you need to run a GUI in order to use a GPU in Linux, and driver setup sucks regardless. NVIDIA cards tend to be easier, but the procedure should be the same? Especially since Mint is a Debian derivative?

a long time ago in 2015 I used to restart xserver and BOINC after Mint startup to make it see a GPU... but now I didn't even try to repeat this shamanic dance with the new releases... I prefer linux for CPU-only nodes when SCC project is active
