I've received 2 beta units for my INTEL NUC Hades Canyon. the first unit has started almost 4 hours ago, shows as 100% complete in BOINC, doesn't block any compute ressources any more in taskmgr - but seems to not end. stderr has the following content right now: projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org/wcgrid_beta29_autodockgpu_7.21_windows_x86_64__opencl_ati_102 -jobs OPN1_0020001_03156.job -input OPN1_0020001_03156.zip -seed 894506991 -wcgruns 112 -wcgdpf 3 INFO: Using gpu device from app init data 0 INFO:[19:24:14] Start AutoGrid... autogrid4: Successful Completion. INFO:[19:24:35] End AutoGrid... INFO:[19:24:36] Start AutoDock for ZINC000976346511_RX1--6lu7_001--CYS145.dpf(Job #0)... OpenCL device: gfx902 it seems the unit actually never started computing - but not sure Howdy benjamin, Can you restart your machine/boinc client and provide us with the top of your event log? it will provide us with details about your cpu and GPU which should help me determine if this is a problem with the scheduler sending out work unit to devices that don't support OpenCL 1.2. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Speedy51, uplinger said, "To be able to receive any beta work, volunteers will want to make sure that on the website under My Contributions -> Beta Testing, they have checked the device profiles that they wish to participate in beta." Thanks Vester, I have my preferences set the correct way I believe. I have Nvidia GPU Use my NVIDIA graphics card if possible:Is set to Yes & Participate in Beta TestingThe correct profile has a tick in the box Howdy Speedy, What profile and device are you trying to use on the website. We recently started allowing member to determine what device to allow GPU on. This woud be in your device profile settings for the agent. If you would like me to explore before you make changes, please give me those details and I can examine the database. Also, some insider trading for you Speedy (don't tell anyone else....): Look for new batches between 10am and 12 tomorrow. (Central US timezone) Thanks, -Uplinger |

I will look into this. Do you use the preferences on the website or do you override them on your client? If you use the website preferences, it was only within the last few days that we allowed members to choose the NVIDIA/AMD/Intel option. If you could, please do not change your preferences to allow me time to explore this on our end. Also, what are your device names so I can verify they are using the right profiles from our website. If you have any logs that may help please post them or send them to support@worldcommunitygrid.org and add ATTN: Uplinger to the subject. (1) I override the preferences on the client. (2) OK, I normally don't change them anyway after setting up a machine. (3) Device names: Ryzen3950X-1 and Ryzen3950X-2 (4) Here are a couple of representative logs, one from each machine. They are all PV. Result Name: BETA_ OPN1_ 0020006_ 02299_ 1-- Result Name: BETA_ OPN1_ 0020006_ 02656_ 0-- |

I opted in yesterday (like you explained Uplinger) around noon, but I haven't received any WU's uptill now
----------------------------------------(Wanted to see how my 2070 Super 'behaves'.) As your instructions were: "To be able to receive any beta work, volunteers will want to make sure that on the website under My Contributions -> Beta Testing, they have checked the device profiles that they wish to participate in beta." I made a new profile for running beta OPN (school), set that profile to my 3950X. And: waiting till now. N.B. I changed 'use web prefs' just now to override the client settings. See if that changes anything. N.B. 2: no changes, still waiting. [Edit 3 times, last edit by DE KOMETEN at Feb 20, 2021 11:01:50 AM] |

Got 40 units so far on a RTX 2070 Super with Ryzen 3900X under Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS.
Everything went smoothly and all units sitting in PV. I do hope that the work units can be made somewhat more beefy. Do runtimes of around 20 seconds on that card make sense? Or will we see different kinds of units soon? |

I upgraded the Display driver on my Laptop (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3630QM CPU), with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M (2048MB) from the older driver 352.86 (which worked perfectly on SETI OpenCL btw) to the newest I could find for that GPU on Nvidia, which is driver version 425.31. The card is OpenCL 1.2 capable.
Now I'm just waiting for new tasks to be available, and hopefully they will not error out this time. |

Short answer is: What you see is what you get. These are all set in the device profile. You can have a home profile set for device A that runs only on GPU and have OPN selected. Or you can have a profile set to run OPN with both GPU and CPU allowed. Or you can have a device profile with only CPU enabled. These are all preferences in the Device Profile settings on the website. As of right now we have technically two projects on the backend, one called opn1 and another opng. The MAIN difference in them is to allow us to have the ability to size the work units differently in size. It also allows us on the backend to tell what batches were run entirely on GPU compared to CPU. Thanks, -Uplinger Maybe I am missing something. I can see where to select to *also* run on GPU, in addition to CPU, for example "Use my NVIDIA graphics card if possible". But I see no way to "runs only on GPU". What am I missing? |

Good morning Zombie,
Near the top of the device profile, you should see a Processor section with this question: "Allow research to run on my CPU?" Thanks, -Uplinger |
