just found out this seems to be a graphics driver issue: https://community.amd.com/t5/opencl/rx-vega-m...ng-amd-driver/td-p/374498 - will need to dig to find out how I can get the GPU to show the correct OpenCL device ...

nice ... found a solution via AMD forums, apparently unsupported driver fixed it: https://community.amd.com/t5/graphics/rx-vega...ng-amd-driver/td-p/357728
both beta work units finished successfully. thanks for giving me the chance to identify this driver flaw in my setup - keep the compute units coming ;-) |

In my experience, GPU work on Intel GPUs is for someone without an nVidia or AMD GPU available. They are comparatively slow as a slug.
----------------------------------------I run AMD GPUs only and I use the WHQL drivers from Windows Update. I've tried blockchain and Radeon Adrenaline. Adrenaline is OK for controlling power, Memory speed (minimum), and fan speeds. I prefer MSI Afterburner for control of eight GPUs on a mining rig. We can expect plenty of questions after Beta from members who have not run GPU projects before. I have been 3D mapping the Milkyway and looking for primes while waiting for WCG to develop this project. This is the most excited I have been since UD's "Backing off...unable to connect." |

I am aware work is in short supply at the moment. Hence I haven't been able to get any work I found the wording in my log interesting it says:
----------------------------------------20/02/2021 1:14:36 PM | World Community Grid | Tasks for AMD/ATI GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them 20/02/2021 1:14:36 PM | World Community Grid | Tasks for Intel GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them I have Nvidia 2070. I would like to take the opportunity to thank everybody that has been working on this thus far. From some of the run times I have read so far the project is certainly going to get a great speed increase when it goes live |

Thanks Vester, I have my preferences set the correct way I believe. I have Nvidia GPU Use my NVIDIA graphics card if possible:Is set to Yes & Participate in Beta TestingThe correct profile has a tick in the box |

Check your BOINC Manager | Activity settings, Speedy51.

Check your BOINC Manager | Activity settings, Speedy51. I have done that thanks Vester. As far as I can see my setting are set correctly. Just a case of all the work has been sent out [Edit 1 times, last edit by Speedy51 at Feb 20, 2021 5:20:41 AM] |

A question regarding getting tasks when this goes into production... Will there be some way of controlling the balance of work between CPU and GPU on a given project? Some sites allow "GPU only" or "send me CPU work if [and only if] no GPU work is available", whilst some others treat [some of] their CPU and GPU projects as separate entities. I can see possible issues if both CPU and GPU task allocations for a single project are taken out of the existing "Project Limits" in the device configuration:
As I understand things at present, the intention is to have a separate "queue" for OPN1 GPU tasks so they can be somewhat larger! I just wonder if a separate tasks limit will be introduced for that queue? Cheers - Al. P.S. So far, my (Linux) systems have run these tasks successfully on a GTX 1050Ti and a GTX 1660Ti; only seen shorties, the "slowest" of which took around 65 seconds to run on the 1050Ti or around 45 seconds on the 1660 (including the 10 seconds or so spent in AutoGrid setting things up!) Averages were nearer 35 and 25 seconds respectuvely, I hope these validate o.k. as that's impressively quick work if it's valid! [Edited to improve the statistics and replace a '!' with a '?' !!!] Short answer is: What you see is what you get. These are all set in the device profile. You can have a home profile set for device A that runs only on GPU and have OPN selected. Or you can have a profile set to run OPN with both GPU and CPU allowed. Or you can have a device profile with only CPU enabled. These are all preferences in the Device Profile settings on the website. As of right now we have technically two projects on the backend, one called opn1 and another opng. The MAIN difference in them is to allow us to have the ability to size the work units differently in size. It also allows us on the backend to tell what batches were run entirely on GPU compared to CPU. Thanks, -Uplinger |

I am both confused and delighted. I have two Ryzen 3950X's on Ubuntu 18.04.5, one with a GTX 1070 and the other with an RTX 2060. They run Folding 24/7. To my considerable surprise, I find that one received about 50 of the betas, and the other about 90 betas around 5 to 6 hours ago. All completed successfully, averaging about 30 seconds (they must be the CPU-sized ones). But that was with Folding still running on both cards, so they were doing double-duty. Not bad. The surprising thing is that even though I had the "beta" selected for that location, I had the "Use my NVIDIA graphics card if possible:" set to NO. So maybe that was before the website was set up? At any rate, glad to do it. Howdy Jim, I will look into this. Do you use the preferences on the website or do you override them on your client? If you use the website preferences, it was only within the last few days that we allowed members to choose the NVIDIA/AMD/Intel option. If you could, please do not change your preferences to allow me time to explore this on our end. Also, what are your device names so I can verify they are using the right profiles from our website. If you have any logs that may help please post them or send them to support@worldcommunitygrid.org and add ATTN: Uplinger to the subject. Thanks, -Uplinger |
