It would be nice to see how many units/tasks left to complete on project stats.

It is more or less impossible to accurately predict the project end, since, by the most projects, WUs will be generated during the complete project life, often directly depending of already computed results.

Yves is correct. Most of the projects, if not all, have changed their objectives due to the results of previous WUs. SCC is a good example of this.

That being said, I believe as part of the on boarding of a project, there is a discussion concerning the parameters for the scope of the project. So, in general terms there may be a preliminary idea of either how many work units may be needed or some indication of how long the project may last. Of course these parameters may change as the project progresses depending on any number of factors such as the knowledge gained by what has already been processed, available personnel, available funding, etc. Research at this level has many unknowns. Cheers

Cheers, Yves oh, I thought that would create a whole new phase 2, etc. With a new set of WUs [Edit 1 times, last edit by blyons123 at Sep 3, 2020 11:12:09 AM] |

You are missing the point. It is not necessary to predict when the project will end in order to supply a list of available work units. There may be more work units added periodically, but every other BOINC project I know has such a list on their Project Status page.
It is useful to check when you are not receiving any work, for example, and want to know if the project has a supply or server problem. The omission here is an obvious limitation that I am sure could be remedied. |
