OPN on 64bit ARM?

I bought an Odroid N2+ that has an Amlogic s922x big.LITTLE CPU. That means it has 2 A53 cores and 4 A73 cores all based on the ARMv8 architecture. When trying to run OPN tasks with Ubuntu 20.04 aarch64 I was unable to get any jobs to download because my CPU wasn't recognized. After setting an LXD 32bit Ubuntu container based on armhf I was able to download and crunch 4 for tasks that are now awaiting validation.

So my questions is: What, if anything, can I do run the OPN tasks on aarch64? If nothing, that's ok because if the 4 results I upload come back as valid I can still crunch full time with it. If they don't, then I will find another use for my N2+

I have a Raspberry Pi 4 running 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS and it gets OPN Android WUs

Re: OPN on 64bit ARM?

I've set up a Pi 3B+ and a Pi 4 with RaspiOS in 64-bit mode, and it just floors me how much faster the 4 is over the 3B+. So far, it's looking like it should be at least twice as fast, once the RAC settles down. They weren't kidding when they said this was a big step up from the previous Pis.

Re: OPN on 64bit ARM?

I have never owned a Pi so I can't comment on their speed. I know my Odroid-N2+ does an average OPN1 task in less than five hours. The Odroid-XU4 takes about eight hours. The AMD A6-6310 laptop I have takes about nine hours.

So yeah, the ARM SBC's are getting a lot better at crunching even though they are a long way from an AMD Ryzen.

Re: OPN on 64bit ARM?

I have 9 Raspberry Pi 4's (model B). They take about 9-10 hours to complete one OPN work unit per core (w/ 4 cores total). I am using the Ubuntu Server 20.04 distribution as well, and the units are cooled with fans.

I have one Raspberry Pi 3 model B. but it takes almost 1 day to complete one OPN work unit per core (w/ 4 cores). So I decided to take this unit off the network. I also utilized Ubuntu Server 20.04 with this unit as well.

Lastly, I have 16 Asus Tinkerboards. I would not recommend them because they tend to overheat (even with active cooling), and the software support is not great either. They tend to take 12-14 hours to complete one OPN work unit per core (w/ 4 cores -- this is also very dependent on active cooling). I limited the max CPU frequency to 1 Ghz for stablility purposes. Lastly, I am running a stripped down version of Tinker OS (upgraded to Debian Buster) on all of the Tinkerboards.

Re: OPN on 64bit ARM?

Hello,

you can run OPN on an ARM64 by using an alt_platform - information.

Take a look here: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,42687
