If you guys don't embrace change soon you will fade away. I guess you missed the point. If everyone here agreed with you, nothing would change about the badges! |

I would like more badges too. Not for me as I have no chance of getting to those high badges, but for those who can.
----------------------------------------As for forum participation, sure, more people would be nice but WCG's forums don't seem that much different compared to other projects like Rosetta@home. Only a very small fraction of crunchers actually join the forums. Fortunately, WCG gets high compute numbers. User retention, in my opinion, has to come from the science results and not from badges. But like Doneske said, this has been a request for ages now and there are more important things to take care of. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz [Edit 1 times, last edit by Falconet at Jul 13, 2020 10:13:33 AM] |

First thing first, many times requested in past, the Diamond 200, 500, 1000 badges, donning roman numerals or some abbreviation like 1C(C), 2C(CC), 5C(D) 1M(M). Last time the 1, 2, 5, 10,20, 50, 100 it seemed to have been done at the flick of the wrist. It's beyond me and many why this is not being actioned by WCG.

I guess you guys have been here too long to see this forum with fresh eyes. Naw, we see plenty that needs to be done, but as explained, this is a volunteer project and priorities have to be taken (by IBM). (I'll ignore the rest of the gloom and doom that was stated). The forums is just one part of WCG. Yes, I do agree that the forums could use some shinning, but it's main purpose to to communicate members, teams, admins and scientists and that it does OK. All suggestions are appreciated and we have been told that there is a nice long list of suggestions/ideas to be implemented when there is time. In the meanwhile, I plan to keep on crunching. I invite you to do the same. Luck to all. CJSL Still crunching @Home |

What this shows to me is that WCG is more interested in lots of very low powered devices connected instead of higher powered devices.
I've found I get better praise (badges, certificates, etc) from connecting a Raspberry Pi to WCG and using my 9 yr old but still much higher powered desktop to Folding. As a comparison, on OpenPandemics, my desktop computes a single workunit at 2 hours, while the Raspberry Pi computes the same workunit at 18 hours. The desktop is an Intel 2600k, while the Pi is a Pi 3 B board. The badge system is based around time, not how much work is done. So I'm better off plugging in a Pi than dedicating my desktop. Thanks for showing me just how much WCG actually cares about how much work I do. /Sarcasm |

What this shows to me is that WCG is more interested in lots of very low powered devices connected instead of higher powered devices. This statement is not correct. WCG is interested in every contributor. You have to realise that many of the quiet contributors do not have high performant system and maybe cannot afford the electricity bill related to operating powerful systems. For this reason, WCG has the CPU time based badges. Strong contributors, who focus on credit, will anyway look for additional topics like challenge or ranking within their team, etc. Cheers, Yves |
