IPv6 Support

I noticed that the domain for BOINC (worldcommunitygrid.org) doesn't seem to be registered to any ipv6 address at all. I've been having issues with some ipv6-only devices not being able to register to WCG as a result. Is it possible for WCG to add an ipv6 address to their server?

Re: IPv6 Support

hello
can I just check something, sorry complete newbie question.

I have installed BOINC client on several VPS Ubuntu 20.04 servers all running and being recongised by World Community Grid. all of them running/reporting results. but I realise all of them are IPv4.

I just came across an offer for a very good value VPS but -after signing up - I realised it was a IPv6 only service (and I would have to pay a small additional fee for IPv4 IP address)
while Boinc client is running
/etc/init.d/boinc-client status showing active
if I run
boinccmd --get_tasks
nothing happens
is there any solution to this?
or do I need to use/pay for IPv4 IP address?
thx!

sorry if posted on wrong thread!

Re: IPv6 Support

I believe the Boinc client and Boinc manager is probably missing IPv6 support. I tried to get Boinc manager to connect to Boinc client with [::1] (IPv6 localhost) and it either doesn't connect (windows) or manager stops responding (Linux). I have both IPv4 and IPv6, although it would be nice to get IPv6 to work.

Worldcommunitygrid servers is missing ipv6 address in DNS AAAA.
Rosetta at home servers have IPv6, but only use IPv6 connection to server when Boinc client configured to use proxy at localhost / 127.0.0.1, and have Apache proxy running on the same computer. Boinc manager, options, other options, HTTP proxy. IPv6 proxy to server works good on Rosetta at home. What about World Community Grid which can only use IPv4?

Can maybe try to configure boinc-client to proxy 127.0.0.1 and run proxy server on same computer, for any project servers with IPv6 support.

Re: IPv6 Support

hi Sam, thank you so much but this is a bit too technical for me at the moment.
anyway thanks for very prompt response.
bw

PS - adding IPv4 to the VPS I mentioned led to immediate number-crunching smile
