Has any one in here used a thin client stand alone for crunching?

Re: Thin Clients

Don't know what your definition is of thin client, some do run BOINC on cloudservers and control it through for instance TeamViewer. Setting the BOINC Manager/BOINC BOINC Client up on a thin client and have the science apps execute remotely is guaranteed to fail. They need real time 'I'm alive' connection through RPC.

PS, there's a topic on Chromebook and instructions can be found on the internet of a few years ago but if that's stable, don't know.

Re: Thin Clients

This is an example, a thin client is basically a stripped down computer.

Re: Thin Clients

You might be able to install / boot Linux from a usb stick if you can get a boot selection menu. Maybe even install to the flash.

The processor looks to be x86-64 (EMT64/AMD64) compatible

Re: Thin Clients

I bought a couple of Wyse thin clients... you can wipe the flash drive. Most people tell you it's not possible because they are ROM. They do have windows enterprise in them, but it is wippable.
