My research indicated that Intel beats AMD on threads per watt, and is line ball on threads per $.
My new build, which replaces an old 4-thread machine: - Intel i9-10850K - 16GB RAM - No graphics card, to save power - PL1 power level screwed down to 75W --> runs 24/7 very quietly - 20 threads run at 3400MHz --> OPN WU's take about 2 hours - 15000+ Boinc points per day |

I'm on the lookout for an AMD 5950X processor to replace the 3900X processor.

With the systems and budgets others have on here, my stuff seems puny at best.

Your performance is just as much as the other here.
----------------------------------------The only thing that is important is that you are a share in the projects. P.S. : My 1st PC for WCG was an AMD A8350 (4 cores without HT) 7 years long. I hope my current PC AMD Ryzen 9 3900 X will also hold for about 7 years. I also look a little jealous of larger systems , but they are outside of my budget.![]() AMD 3900X - 21 Threads @ 4,00 GHz - 24/7 Samsung Xcover4 - 4 Threads @ 1.43 Ghz - 24/7 [Edit 2 times, last edit by Still Alive at Mar 7, 2021 10:31:20 AM] |

The more cores, the better. Intel is not competitive right now at high core counts. The best CPU for crunching, assuming you're running a single computer, is the 3990x. It can handle more than two months of runtime a day and has a power usage of about two watts per thread. https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-threadripper-3990x https://pcpartpicker.com/product/KWmFf7/amd-t...rocessor-100-100000163wof Personally I’d go for the 3900 over the 3900x - virtually the same performance but at 65w tdp rather than 105w. |
