Re: Building a new PC

Speaking of the AMD 3900X:

It's cheaper now, apparently.

Re: Building a new PC

Just had an AMD Ryzen 9 3900X built. I'm crunching for Covid and it completes a package about every 4-5 minutes. It has a Noctua NH-D15S cooler. I added a second fan on intake side of the cooler. I set WCG to 100% of the processors at 82% of the time. Temps are in the mid-70s.

Your PC is finishing OPN1 workunits in 4-5 minutes?

Re: Building a new PC

I'm guessing he meant that one finishes every 5 minutes, so presumably about 2 hours per task?

Re: Building a new PC

I found it's cheaper to buy refurb than to build from scratch. I got a Lenovo I7 octa core with 4gb ram and a 1tb hard drive for $138. Of course I upgraded the ram to 16gb and put in a m2 solid state as the OS drive after i got it.

Re: Building a new PC

MarcoFerrari,
thank you for your feedback.
What computer case do you use for this configuration?
Some months ago, I read an article (unfortunately I forgot to bookmark it) mentioning that the hot spot on the Ryzen 9 3900X does not stay at the middle because of the die setting. If you "excenter" the CPU cooler accordingly, you would probably reach a better cooling performance.
Enjoy your new machine,
Yves
