@Sgt.Joe and BladeD:
The links to the articles on the SARS-Covid-2 drug discovery projects on Big Cruncher supercomputers ( here and here ) are interesting. There's also the project done on Summit , which a certain redundant politician was interpreting as meaning that it's all been solved. They make it appear as if our forthcoming OpenPandemics project here on WCG could be rather feeble in comparison. But they don't mention anything about the most important part: what software are they running, and what is it trying to actually do? (Apart from showing a F@H logo in describing one of the projects). Are they using VINA, for example? Would their software be better for OpenPandemics than AutoDock? Can anyone here answer these questions? |

I am going to say it is good to have many different approaches to the Covid-19 problem. The more we end up knowing about the virus, its structure and how it replicates the greater the chance we will be able to thwart it. Another benefit possibly is to know more about not only other corona type viruses, but also also viruses in general. It is also an exercise in resource utilization. We have all these wonderful tools, now how do we allocate these resources the most effectively ? Maybe this is the shotgun approach, but perhaps some of these will hit the target. Cheers
Sgt. Joe

According to France 24, the first French case has now been traced to 27 December. That is a month earlier than first thought.
Apparently, he hadn't been abroad so the French are investigating further. There is a possibility that his wife was asymptomatic and worked with two Chinese. Mike |
