I forgot, boinc does not interfere at all with other things you do on the system no matter what your settings, as it is flagged "lowest priority" by default. This is an add on to the post before this.

For me always CPU time @ 100% and and most of the time 100% for % of CPU (without SMT).

This is an add on to the post before this. Actually it does, particularly if there is lots of swapfile trashing and disk writing. This is why you can set a minimum of overall system load as a measure for BOINC to pause for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds the load is tested again and if the limit has dropped below the threshold, crunching is resumed. As it is, if BOINC is prevented from receiving 'I'm alive' from the running science apps for 30 seconds, you could end up losing jobs in progress, hence why I've set "While processor usage is less than to 80%. I haven't had that problem, but i set 100% on three of my four cores and it isn't allowed to use my fourth core at all. Are you using all your cores for boinc?

Think the default setting is 25% when all resources are used, so guess your mostly idling the 4th core/thread is the escape clause.

I leave the fourth core off because of heating and power draw. Plus the work units aren't interrupted if i hop online or piddle with the computer.

This may not belong here, in that case, I am sorry. I do have a question, I have a computer with 36 cores and I would like to set it so it runs only 11 at a time, this seems to be the fastest for it.
Thank you |

Since the formula rounds down to the nearest whole thread, you'd have to enter 31% of CPUs

I set it at 31%, but the computer still insists on crunching on all 36 cpu's.
I appreciate your answer, maybe you have another idea to try? I hope so. Miklos |
