Virus report by AVG Anti Virus Software

Updated to latest version of World community Grid 7.14.3 x86 for Windows 10.

My AVG FREE anti virus software reported a threat of IDP.generic located in C:\Windows\boinc.scr . It then placed it in quarantine.

Would you like to check your source code ? Do you need a copy of my suspect file ?

Regards,

Graleth

boinc.scr is part of the standard code screensaver function of BOINC. Doubtlessly a false positive, you can really do without that file if you never use the screensaver. In the OS set screensaver to None to ensure the function is disabled.

It happens in the same way with me. Just restore from quarentine and aprove.
Probably WCG will check it in the future. Screensaver isn't a show stop0er to run Boinc client with WCG. keep crunching coffee

Re: Virus report by AVG Anti Virus Software

VirusTotal shows 0 out of 72 engines detected malware in boinc.scr from the version bundled with BOINC 7.16.5 x64 for Windows. Including AVG showing no malware detected.

Checksums:
SHA2-256: 63f57c7ccbebc5dad06d14bd87b7a3accc0817e5ecf06b5fb3e8c4c435a40497

I don't have access to the version of boinc.scr that's bundled with WCG 7.14.3 in case it's any different. It's possible AVG Free uses a different engine than the AVG that VirusTotal uses.

Feel free to upload your copy to VirusTotal and let us know if it shows the same results of IDP.generic.

At any rate, I generally whitelist the folders (directories) of anything related to distributed computing, so things like C:\Windows\boinc.scr and C:\Program Files\BOINC and C:\ProgramData\BOINC so anti-malware programs don't flag any false positives.
