Future of desktop computers

There is a program called shadow which will rent someone a nice windows computer for 15 dollars a month in my case. Now that is over 5 years of rent to buy a comparable coputer. One must also add hardware failures and the cost of electricity. Now one needs a andriod tv as a monitor and a device to run the shadow program but the tv has other uses as well. I am sure that they back up all of ones data too. One could also set up a raspberry pi computer to run shadow and use any dumb tv as a monitor. I am too old to ues a desktop as I use a laptop so I can be comfortable in my bed. I been waiting for this ever since I seen the term cloud computing. I hope there will be a day soon when there will be a computer and router on a utility pole outside my house and the only thing I will need to set this up is a router security password.

Re: Future of desktop computers

I finally got my invitation to join shadow. One gets a remote computer that one has to setup just like it was local. I was exploring it and decided to start a weather program. I than told the program to detect my locality. It told me I was in California. This is why the program is slugish. I can not see how they can track my mouse pointer if I have to send and receive data from California. So unless they put a server in Chicago{less than 300 miles from me), I will not recomend the program.

Re: Future of desktop computers

I bought a LENOVO for $153 that is a I5 with 16gb of ram and 500gb hard drive. Much cheaper than paying someone $15 a month, plus my data stays with me, not a stranger.

That's a steal. Where'd you find that, eBay?
