Re: Coronavirus (COVID-19) - NHS

At the moment there are plenty of rural communities which have not been affected. However, if Trump chases the USA back to work too soon there will be a lot fewer.

We are already seeing lockdowns partially lifted in some countries like China and Germany.

Re: Coronavirus (COVID-19) - NHS

Go and have a look at the pages you linked to. Are there regular updates regarding the progress of the project through the Alpha process? No. Are there answers to questions about the project recently? No.
Still don't see it?
Where are the other two climate projects that were announced two years ago? How are they doing in the approval process? Did they make it to alpha testing yet? Who knows! WCG does NOT make serious efforts to keep members informed. We consistently get the first announcement, then nothing for Dog only knows how long with zero updates until maybe, MAYBE, we notice something in the Beta forum but that hasn't been happening either.
We the members provide ALL the crunching horsepower on this project for free, and we're fine with that, but is it REALLY so much to ask to keep us informed, particularly on a project with very immediate demand and implications??
FYI, observe what showed up on the same day that the above was posted:
OpenPandemics - COVID 19 Beta Test April 20, 2020.
Not only that, but with a personal response: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=624305

I would suggest that our computing power at WCG be used to study and understand this virus (and any future opens too) and provide solutions (cures and/or vaccines) to rid of this terrible illness which is bringing health and financial woes upon human kind.

Not so good news
Coronavirus has mutated into at least 30 different strains, Chinese study finds
https://nypost.com/2020/04/21/coronavirus-has...-different-strains-study/

Li’s team found that some of the most aggressive strains of the virus were able to generate 270 times the viral load as the weakest strains; in addition, the aggressive strains killed the human cells fastest.

Interspersed with better news
Germany, UK approve human trials for coronavirus vaccine

Oxford team leader Prof. Sarah Gilbert last week said that a vaccine could be available for use by the general public by autumn.

“Personally, I have a high degree of confidence. And, I think, it has a very strong chance of working,” she said.

But the UK government briefing today said it could take another year for effective treatment of an effective vaccine.

Looking forward to some COVID WU, I have started up a few office machines sitting right now to folding@home and rosetta because they seem to be first out with work. Just enabled 50% split of work in hopes we can chew through these beta WU.

Re: Coronavirus (COVID-19) - NHS

University of Louisville researchers have developed a technology that is believed to block the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 from infecting human cells.

The technology is based on a piece of synthetic DNA – an “aptamer” – which targets and binds with a human protein called nucleolin. Early tests show that this aptamer may stop viruses, including novel coronavirus, from “hijacking” nucleolin to replicate inside the body.

UofL is seeking to fast-track development, including application to the Food and Drug Administration for approval to start treating patients seriously affected with COVID-19.
