My very old 2010 intel I5-520m proc crunched Work unit for 79.63h and was awarded 1,229.0 points (Claim of 1776). Three other machines crunch from 14 to 60 hr but they get awarded from 650 to 730 points. What is happening, is this normal for all projects?

Your case proofs the credit system is still thoroughly borked. The first step to potentially fix is rerunning the client "Run CPU benchmark" as it seems overrated.

Slow machines claim more points than faster machines. Then along comes the wingman and the same thing happens. They then average the 2 claims and award the points.
So, if you have an average machine which crunches 2 units for the same length of time the claim is for about the same amount. If your wingmwn for one unit is a fast machine he will claim fewr points and the average will reduce your award and if the wingman for the other unit is a slower machine, your award will increase. Therefore you can get vastly different points for the same work. Crazy!!! Mike |

Mike you said

Mike That is what happened. My old machine which has a cracked screen has Windows 7. (now unsupported) My wingman also had windows 7 (so probably also a slow old machine) Eventually I will probably just get MIP work which does not use wingmen. No point upgrading it since I don't browse with it and offloaded all personal data from it. ![]() ![]() |

It is not the Windows 7 that matters. It is the age of the machine. I use Windows 7 Professional and will continue to do so because I need the XP emulator incorporated.
I classify my i5 laptop as a slow machine because it takes 2 days to crunch arp units, so I stopped doing arp units on it. My i7 tower I consider as a medium speed machine because it takes 1 day for each arp unit. However, my tower has died, hopefully temporarily, so I am keeping arp ticking over on it along with mcm, scc & mip. 4 threads so 1 for each project. I am not concerned about points. Mike |

I also don't care about points. My question was an observation of something weird. I keep my ancient machine because it accumulates a lot of CPU time.

According this article https://www.howtogeek.com/228689/how-to-make-old-programs-work-on-windows-10/ W10 has an XP compatibility mode. Just tested and indeed there are several, one for SP2 and one for SP3 level, else no idea what this special XP Emulator is.
Installing such software may be problematic, but transplanting in a 'portable' way may still work. /OT |

Thanks, Lavaflow. After a quick look at the article it looks as though Dosbox would be suitable as it is a MS DOS program that I need to continue. I'll try that when I get a new machine.
