A visualization for ARP
!. Given that each task represents a location in Africa. 2. This could be represented on a map of sub -saharan Africa. 3. This location could illuminate when a valid result is received and perhaps flash until the next one is received. 4. Given the size of each location under study and availabe screen resolution, neighboring locations may be needed to be represented by the same pixel. A certain amount of inaccuracy is acceptable to make a point. 5. 7000 results are received per day. I think that a viewer might have to wait an average of 12 seconds for the next flash. 6. In an advanced version, the repeat itterations of the same location could be represented by different colors. This would be a quick way to get an estimate of progress. It would assess the areas under study. It would be flashy and attention getting especially on large screens in public places. It beats static "broccoli" |

OK, but how to represent the 180+ iterations of each location (We are now in about the 5th 48 hour simulation which is represented by the last 3 digit set in a work unit name, ARP1_0020540_005_1).

Actually we are now in the 6th iteration as we started from 000. This idea sounds good, but previous screensavers have related only to the unit actually in progress.
There is no real need to show progress through the project as the iteration number does that for us. We are now about 2/3 of the way through the 6th iteration of 183, so about 3% completed. Mike |

It would be a cool idea, but I realy doubt that it would be implemented.

A nice idea but the cost would be better spent elsewhere.

I knew there were reasons but it would have been cool.
Mike's calculation of 3% in 4 months suggests that it will take 11 years to complete the study. Will we ever get to Atmospheric Aerosols, Which are a real question mark in climate study? |

Aerosols are just one factor, but this project is not about global warming. It is about seasonal rainfall prediction.

We're only on 8000 a day about a week, turning out about 7K in practice. so think the extrapolation should come off that. 37000 WU's times 2 is one cycle as present base so about 10.5 days per cycle, with the remainder than taking about 5 years.
----------------------------------------Anyway, not good the WCG cloud is not absorbing that 8K a day and saturation was reached at 7K, 18-19 years instead of the 22 years computing daily. No ludicrous speed. Edit: The numbers takes account of an assumed 'repair' quantity. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 17, 2020 11:14:57 AM] |
