Re: limit tasks

8 logical processors mean... when you run 50% of processors, you get 4. Great Guy. Mitch

Re: limit tasks

So at 25% of cores and 50% of CPU time or the other way around, you're really computing the equivalent of 1 thread at 100%, which is much much better i.e. change CPU time to 100& and threads at 12.5%. It's much better because the stupid throttle at 50% CPU time is really 1 second running, 1 second cool down. Bad for your hardware, particularly the fan if it starts hitting the rev up and rev down mode. Experiment with 100% CPU time and then 12.5% of threads, 25% of thread, 37.5% of threads etc to find the point the fan start running, then take it 1 notch down.

Re: limit tasks

What version of the client are you running?

I run the official WCG 7.14.2 client on Windows. I have my family machine (i5-3330) set to only run two units at a time.

Options - Computing preferences ...
Set 'Use at most xx% of the CPUs' to 50% and 'Use at most xxx% of CPU time' to 100%. This will run 4 units on a 8 thread processor. If you want to only run 2 units set it to 25% instead of 50%.

  • i5-10400 (Comet Lake, 6C/12T) @ 2.9 GHz
  • i5-7400 (Kaby Lake, 4C/4T) @ 3.0 GHz
  • i5-4590 (Haswell, 4C/4T) @ 3.3 GHz
  • i5-3330 (Ivy Bridge, 4C/4T) @ 3.0 GHz

Re: limit tasks

You can select # of tasks you want each project to run say 2. And decide if you want to run only a particular project.

I use the "app_config.xml" file to set the maximun # of threads I want WCG to run.
Place this text file in your WCG project directory.

<app_config>
<project_max_concurrent>12</project_max_concurrent>
</app_config>
