Re: Actual Cost of Electricity

That is actually a very good rate NAP2614

probably should cut my estimated cost in half since most of you pay closer to 10 cents. You guys using your actual bottom line payment to figure your cost per KWH? My base was around .10 but with all the add ons, I was up to 17 cents.

Re: Actual Cost of Electricity

Rooftop solar (80% of annual use): $0.12*
Community solar (20% of annual use): 15% discount from utility rate
Utility rate: $0.273

Effective rate: $0.142

*Paid for full system cost upfront--amortized cost per kWh over 25 years based on production estimates is $0.12. Will be higher if the system produces less than estimated, needs maintenance, etc. or lower if the system lasts longer than 25 years, produces more than estimated, etc.

Re: Actual Cost of Electricity

Supdood: Nice analysis on your solar power.

I've installed and maintained solar on a couple of RVs and several years ago speced out a whole house for off-grid power where the estimate to run grid power was $40k. My total for a 5kw system with backup gen and a 48 hour battery bank with me doing all the work was around 15k . The power company asked to see my plans and lowered the cost to $16k. Hummm.....

Difference is, once you've shelled out the 15K for your self-sustainability plant, you'll only be winning. As you've got a generator included in the package, not that's you're immediately in the dark when you have dark days.

Re: Actual Cost of Electricity

Lavaflow, you are spot on. but at the time I was still working a 60 hour + work week and commuting 1.5 hour each way and was concerned I just didn't have time to maintain it.

Re: Actual Cost of Electricity

I just did a quick check and my Intel 8700K @ 3.7Ghz running 12 threads is costing my right at 25 cents per 24 hours of run time.
My older 4 cores 2.667 GHz non HT, a tad bit more.

Re: Actual Cost of Electricity

Here about $0.29 per kWh in Germany. Good motivator to be always super efficient when it comes to electricity usage.
