Using one's GPU for WCG

Hey guys,

I have no use of my old computer with an Intel I5-7xxx, 2 GPU's:
1. Nvidia GTX1060 - 6GB
2. AMD/ATI RX-550- 4GB

I curentely leave it turned on while away from home (Usually 12-13 hours a day), when I get back I shut it off because the fans are going extremely wild from the total load of WCG and PRIMEGRID.

I am using the GPU's for another BOINC project and would like to know whether it is possible to somehow get WCG run on them GPU's? They are extremly powerful and I consider WCG the most important BOINC project due to its impact on future public health.

If the answer is no, do you guys know another project which is linked to public health and diseas treatment solutions?

Thanks is advance for anyone who responeses to this thread,

Joseph

No, there is currently no work on WCG running on GPU's. There were in the past, and there may in the future, but currently nothing in that direction is announced.

If you are looking for disease projects running on GPU's I would check the following:

- Folding@Home (one of the largest distributed computing projects, but it does use its own client, not BOINC)
- GPUGrid

There were some words on enabling MCM for GPU, same as the words turned into practice in enabling this app for Android. Testing underway.

Personally when reading words like the scientists having to size down the data set to be even able to viably process this on the grid in a reasonable time is all the more motive to go ahead and do the whole data set in less time for more targets. That's what happened with HCC. Done in months which otherwise would have had years more to go.

Thank you guys for responding, it is a very important role for my PC rather than sell it, to do something good with it. It has been sitting in the garage or about a year, now it is going to have positive impact on the world, maybe :)
