biggrin Re: Fighting climate change

Hello,
this is a difficult topic and I hope that most of you share my concern regarding climate change. Climate change is due to the anthropogenic effect, it's us, humans, that are affecting it (I will not respond to deniers, I hope there are not too many here).
In the past, WCG did some research regarding photovoltaic cells with the "Clean energy project". As I can see, it was a material science project to find new materials to use to convert solar energy to electric current. It was a great project but it ended.
It's my opinion that to fight climate change, we need new sources of energy, more efficient, possibly renewable (I also sustain nuclear power but many countries don't want to use them for the NYMBY problem).
We need also decarbonization technologies and new types of batteries.
In this sense, I think that WCG could help scientists to run their research to find new solutions and new materials. The topics could be many like photovoltaic, batteries, plasma physics (for fusion), chemistry for type 4 fission reactors (simulations of the interactions of melted salts with ceramic materials).
So, what's the opinion of the heads in WCG? What are the projects for the future?
I know about the Africa rain project, but this is more a climate model, useful but there is also so much more we need to do.

So you won't engage someone who has a different point of view than yours? I didn't read anymore of your post after that statement. PC/narrow minded people have no clue.

Now, that's rich... biggrin

Not sure if you know how things work here at WCG, but the WCG "heads" don't define what projects get to be implemented. It's the scientific institutions and universities that define what projects get to be implemented. WCG participates and helps these institutions/universities to get to their final goal. I would suggest for you (since it seems that you are knowledgeable on the subject) to communicate with these institutions and let them know about WCG.

Of all people you should know. I don't know why you feel the need to chime in every time I make an opposing point of view post but do us both a favor and go stalk someone else. This forum needs an ignore option.

Calling someone 'PC/narrow minded people have no clue' is not a opposing point of view. Especially when that include a majority of scientists.

Re: Fighting climate change

The only one missing in all these climate discussing threads is David Authumns and you've got the set complete on 'open minded' anthropogenic climate change denial AKA the present Anthropocene Epoche, circa 160 years underway. The indelible geological print is found on every square inch of the planet to the deepest depths of the oceans and the highest mountain peaks. Plastic trace is now in your drinking water, meat, bread, fish, produce, everything, with some special Flint water lead additives to help the average human intelligence to regress, It's found in your stool, 100% of all tested people. Yes, we're getting dumber by the day.

Best you do is take a very wide berth from these discussions here. They've shown to go nowhere.

Re: Fighting climate change

Climate change is real, what I deny is that we cause it, or can prevent it.

I feel in a small way we do help cause it (not the major cause). Not the way some scientist theorize tho.

I don't spend much time worrying about it either.

Re: Fighting climate change

Count me on the side of wanting to want to know more about our planet and what's in it. As I see it that's what projects here are trying to do. Not all will be successful but you often don't know that until you try.

The effort to stifle science with preconceived notions is among the worst errors possible. Let's not give in to that.

Re: Fighting climate change

Any wagers on when the other two projects will even see the light of day on WCG? 3 months? 6 months? End of 2020? 2021?
