Re: Is it just me , but these are whoppers!!!

It doesn't make sense to give a deadline of only one week for an 18-hour task the same as a two hour task!? sad

It makes perfect sense from the researchers point of view, which is the one which really counts. An 18 hour job over 7 days is only a little more than 2.5 hours of crunching per day. If this is not satisfactory to anyone, they could just crunch other projects or lower the size of their queue. This process is not supposed to be burdensome to the cruncher.
Cheers

Interesting, on my AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor tasks vary between about 14 hours and 35 hours. (Ubuntu 20.04 OS)

While these tasks may seem big to many, coming from CPDN I know that climate modelling and weather is complex and involves a lot of data compared to most work on BOINC. On this machine, tasks there typically take about 20 days so under two for the longest tasks seems pretty good to me.

If you limit them to four with an app_config.xml file (placed in the project folder), they will run in 12 hours or less on the 3700X.
This will work:
<app_config>
<app>
<name>arp1</name>
<max_concurrent>4</max_concurrent>
</app>
</app_config>

And limiting them to two will produce run times of less than 11 hours.

If you are not familiar with these files, just create them in Notepad (or any text editor) and use the "save as" function to save them as an ".xml" file. Then you place them in the WCG project folder, and activate them in BOINC via Options -> Read config files, or by rebooting.

Re: Is it just me , but these are whoppers!!!

This is from half of a Ryzen 3700X limited to a single ARP1 task. I used an LXD container to isolate the processes on the same chiplet. Mine is the result on the top:

Four at a time, mine is on bottom:

Eight at time, mine is on bottom:

Last, my 2.4Ghz quad core Xeon running 4 at a time, mine is on top:

These links (URLs) aren't everlasting, so if you want others to catch them on time, you'll need to 'textify' them, converting the text on the webpage to livened up text and to paste the result on the forum here, like I did(*). idea
