There's 2 levels of 'reliable', one a regular/timely returner which IIRC is now set at 2.5 days average and 'bad results'. The former cuts you out of getting rush repair jobs and latter cuts into your quota (which is maintained at the science level?)

I don't think I have seen a unit take this long before(see the bottom one):

My machine(s) are kind of slow. But these are taking an inordinately long amount of time to complete. Wingpersons completed these in the 15-17 hr range. My machine will take at least 4 days, possibly 5 days for a couple!

Reissue WUs completed. Mine are worthless. I've aborted them. Sad, sad day :(

hmmmm, not necessarily. Long as they are on the RS pages you mostly still get credit. Why: So far WCG policy has been to not do force remote-cancellation for redundant tasks running. Started let-it-run policy. Yes, it's a waste, but the hours need not get lost. The BOINC scheduler is not exactly perfect.

My i5 laptop takes about 60 hours for comparison purposes
Steve, you should get the credit but 'reliability' is likely to be a problem. In future, I would suggest that you allow a maximum of half your cores/threads for arp use and set your downloads for that number. Replacements should come along fairly soon after, but not immediately. You should then promote them to the head of the queue by suspending the non-arp units for a few moments until the arp unit starts and the resume them. The non-arp unit that is then waiting to run will be the first unit to start when one of the others finishes. If you are taking more than the 2.5 days to have a 'reliable' machine, then you only need to consider the 7 day turn around. Mike |

Steve
Further info. If you are late returning a unit, it will be re-sent to someone else. If you then return it before the new guy, they will check if s/he has started it. If not then it will be aborted, so no time lost. If it has, it will be allowed to continue and all 3 get credited withyour own time. s Your points will be the average of you and the first to return. If no.3 returns before you, then all 3 will get credited with their own time and you will get the points awarded based on the other 2. Mike |

Thanks Mike. Yeah, it looks like I jumped the gun (aborting the tasks). Live and learn :)

Mine started out at 3 days and some hours. Actual time it took me was 12 hrs. I am glad they didn't have to wait long for their results. Glad to be of some help.
With beer, all things are possible. Some of them probably should not be tried. |
